I wonder if hosts can allow you to have control over your own "A" record so that I can use WILDCARD.

ALso, I still have doubts. I mean, what is wildcard? Is it a command or feature(cos you can enable it right?) to use in the "A" record.

Could anyone explain this to me? I've been searching around to look for any explaination or tutorial but to no avail.

Thanks!

It's an entry in the DNS tables. Your host will not give you access to the file, yet many paid hosts will update the file for you or give you tools to do so.

Basically a wildcard for your A record allows you to forward all "unspecified" subdomains to a given IP.

Does this make sense, or does it need further explaination?

Okay, I get it now.

But you said they may give you tools to update the file but can I do it via telnet?

If so, how?
Thanks

No.

Not unless you happen to be root :) , and then I'd HIGHLY suggest against telnet -- use SSH.

If a host gives you tools it's be in some sort of control panel they give you.
