Last night while writing a term paper for english, I had the uncontrollable urge to listen to some music.
I fired up winamp, but nothing would play.
I fired up Kazaa, and nothing would play.
I fired up windows media and nothing would play. I checked to make sure my speakers were plugged, and they were. They work as well; I get speaker hiss, and a slight click when I turn on them on.
I uninstalled my soundcard drivers and reinstalled them.
Nothing would work.... except for myCaster. I uninstalled it, and deleted all the registry entries, but music still wont play. I'm not sure what to do.
Thanks for any help :)

kazaa uses windows media player to play the music.
It could be your card might be having IRQ conflicts or it might have been fried.

Or maybe you have to use the Microsoft solution: R.A.C.
(Reinstall and cry) I've experienced this problem from time to time as computer technician, and some times this was the only solution. Are you sure the card is not broken ???

. yes I am sure the card is not broken. Sound plays fine with that myCaster thing, but it wont play with anything else. This includes the sound on movies.
Thanks for the help, tandoc, but I;ve already tried that. Everything is set correctly and should work. It doesn't though, and that is bad.

So it's a software problem then. Are you running the correct audio codecs?
[edit]What soundcard do you have?

I have Audigy.
as far as i know, i have the correct codecs. Why all of a sudden would all but one player cease to work?

Hmmm...update the drivers?
Gayowulf

for what and from where?
I can't see how the orginal drivers that the soundcard came with would suddenly expire and render most, not all, most of my players useless.
the computer just isnt as funwithout music

I've already said that it stopped working shortly after I installed and started using that MyCaster thing.
the volume's fine, and i dont think the windows update has anything to do with it.
And thanks for the drivers, Daniel, but they are the same as the ones i've already got.

un install mycaster?
Gayowulf
November 12th, 2002, 00:13
uninstalling mycaster and removing all the registry keys for it didn't help, but removing the card and installing a new one, and then removing the new one and putting back in the original one fixed it.
Thanks for all the help :)

yeah isolized originally suggested it, but I didnt know thats what it meant.,
