If you are using XMMS you have to let it decode. It will sit there for the amount of time it takes to play the song then it will play it.

Well XMMS is the Unix Winamp....

I prefer mpg123 because it plays as it's decoding. I think there's an updated version called mpg321...

By the way, cd to the directory with the MP3 files and enter the command like this for mpg123 if the filename of the mp3 has spaces in it:

mpg123 "file name here.mp3"
Yes, use the quotes and add .mp3 (remember *nix is case-sensitive so the name should match EXACTLY)

not for me. plays imedialty. maybe your computer is slow ? i have a 2 ghz p4 and 512ddr on my sytem when i had rh 8. the only thing that plays mp3's and i had to wait for the song to decode is my sony walkman, and it takes like 4 or 5 second per song.

AMD Athlon 950mhz, overclocked to 1.02ghz with 256MB of synchronous dimm RAM (im bored and felt like confusing people with that last statement).

I was running Peanut Linux 9.3 on Linux 2.4.19, and soon I'll get RH8 on whatever linux kernel it comes with.
