My friend sent me an ISO that's only about 20MG... The only way I know how to do this stuff is to burn the image onto a CD, can't I just get it to "burn" it onto my hard drive instead?

ISOs are a direct copy of a CD. They are meant to be burned to a CD to provide a backup copy (like that actually happens ).
You can use them without burning them, however. Do a google for ISObuster or Daemon Tools; either one of those programs will work.
