I tried registering a name with eu.org. With the NS records, I got the following message:

---- Checking server addresses

Checking IP 209.207.236.68 for NS1.EXCELLAND.COM...ok.
Checking IP 195.146.81.130 for NS2.EXCELLAND.COM...ok.
Error: NS1.EXCELLAND.COM not authoritative for domain ZZZ.EU.ORG.
Error: NS2.EXCELLAND.COM not authoritative for domain ZZZ.EU.ORG.
2 error(s), stopping.

Where ZZZ is just a sample name. What does "not authoritative for domain" means?

I got similar results with hn and zoneedit.

However I got different results with mydomain:

---- Checking server addresses

Checking IP 208.184.130.51 for NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM...ok.
Checking IP 208.184.130.52 for NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM...ok.
Error: no answer from nameserver on NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM.
Error: no answer from nameserver on NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM.
2 error(s), stopping.

I checked on a domain name which I parked on mydomain and it looks fine to me.

Can somebody explains why?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Hello
This means they have not set the domain up.

I did an eu.org for someone and it took 8 weeks to get it working.
I heard they had speeded things up a bit since then, but who knows!

Where you can check for free *.eu.org?

As far as I understand the registration process you have to look for a domainhoster first, switch the domain to them, although you don't know if its free and afterwards to register the domain at eu.org.

I visited http://www.eu.org and the header says:
EU.org, free domain names

Am I on the wrong track?

What does it mean by "look for a domainhoster first, switch the domain to them..."

I'm now worried about my English :-).

Thanks for this reply and the one on .com.ru, etc..

These arent domains, they are subdomains that look like domains.

As you see with *.com.kg, subdomains can be hosted too. With eu.org the problem is, that eu.org checks if the subdomain is directed to a dns-server and mydomain says they only will setup the domain, after it is registered, a vicious circle.

Which other domain hoster should I try? I would like to have a *.eu.org for email, so I am looking for a hoster which doesn't limit traffic like zoneedit for its free service or checks if a homepage has visitors like hn.

It drives me crazy

nslookup *.eu.org ns3.mydomain.com
Server: ns3.mydomain.com
Address: 208.184.130.53
Name: *.eu.org
Address: 208.184.130.180
works

nslookup *.eu.org ns4.mydomain.com
Server: ns4.mydomain.com
Address: 208.184.130.55
Name: *.eu.org
Address: 208.184.130.180
works too

nslookup *.eu.org ns1.mydomain.com
*** Can't find server name for address 208.184.130.51: No response from server
*** Default servers are not available
but worked already

nslookup *.eu.org ns2.mydomain.com
does not work, no idea if it worked already

message form eu.org:
Error: no answer from nameserver on NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM.
Error: no answer from nameserver on NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM.
Found serial number * on NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM (authoritative).
Found serial number * on NS4.MYDOMAIN.COM (authoritative).
2 error(s), stopping

Well, I said, then I try it with 2 DNS only and tried to register with ns3 and ns4 and then I got:

Checking IP 208.184.130.53 for NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM...ok.
Checking IP 208.184.130.55 for NS4.MYDOMAIN.COM...ok.
Found serial number * on NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM (authoritative).
Found serial number * on NS4.MYDOMAIN.COM (authoritative).
Maximum serial number is *; 1 server(s) not up to date.
---- Checking NS records for * on NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM

Error: NS list on NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM differs from the list you provided.
1 error(s), stopping

How long does it take for a domain to become active after registration anyway?

eu.org is run by volunteers and everything is fed in manually.
They get a bit of sponsorship "in kind".
I offered to help them at one time but they are very wary of being seen to take freebies from commercial web companies.

In short: It takes weeks to get the domains working.

How do we know that an application is queued for processing?

http://eu.org/top-policy.html
Subdomain names
Only subdomains of 4 characters or more will be registered automatically.

I tried again (6th time), after nslookup ns1.mydomain.com showed my eu.org-domain, which I would like to have and did get no answer again, while the 5 times before I got an automatic generated email nearly immediately. I checked with ns2 too and the domain was not known. My subdomain is under eu.org directly.

Is everything ok now and I have to wait or did they stop this domain registration? Do they send me an email, when my eu.org-domain is accepted?

What about the eu.org-mailinglist? I got a welcome message only, which doen't tell me where to send mails, only how to unsubscribe.

they work, it just takes a while. when i first registered my (sub)domain it was done within days. then when i wanted to delete an older domain that i didnt need anymore it took weeks to get a reply. they do work, but have patience - after all it is free..

Hi Chicos,

I do not know if your answer was in response to my question. If it is, do you mean to say even if it says errors found, it is still going to work? And all I have to do is just to wait?

I guess there must be really something wrong with my English. Thanks.

Alex

all i'm saying is just wait and see. it could be weeks before it's up and ready. i haven't registered or modified a domain with them lately, so i couldn't tell you how long you'd have to wait, it took 4-8 weeks for mine.

Incredible, a few hrs ago I asked for a *.eu.org-domain (6 letters) and now it works. I think the most important thing was to use hn and my email to virtual-verify@keefeg.com *after* the registration at hn.

Actually my *.eu.org worked out a long time ago. The errors I got were indeed errors on the servers. However I got misleading answers with the responses I got. All you really need to do is check on each of the name servers as to whether if it is up or down.
