Can you disable onboard audio on a motherboard and then install your own soundcard?

You don't even have to use bios. If you just plug in a sound card your computer will recognize both...you can use them both just not symaltaneously, It can come in handy

If it were possible to use both at the same time, expect some high cpu usage.

Technically I have five sound cars. One physical object is actually looked at as 3 logical objects and then I have built in and a Sb Live...I can use more than one at once with now problems or CPU spikes at all

Well I mean Onboard sound, no matter what, will use more processor power than a regular pci soundcard.
