View Full Version : The unlimited lies

I have a message board that gets 300,000 hits per month. My
service provider Ezboard is slowly going belly up. I was thinking about starting my own an message board using Ultimate bulleitn Board.

Finding a host has been a huge problem. Unlimited bandwidth does not mean unlimited. In the case of Pow Host and Blue Zebra it means about 1 to 2 gigs per month.

I'm thinking I'll need 6 to 10 gigs per month. 25 bucks per month is the most I'm will to pay for a provider.

Does anyone know of any web hosts that fit my particular need?

take a look at tera-byte.
they offer 10GB for 10 bucks.
but it seems that they are out of space (cobolt raq) at the moment.
but if you can wait for some time, they would be a good and cheap choice...

or take a look at:
webhosting.com
they are still in your price scale (20bucks, when you pay yearly). well they state unlimeted, too. but i got in touch with them and they said it's ok to use 10-12GB/month.

Greetings
Arno

You might want to take a look into a Php/MySQL Based Message Board rather than UBB Board which uses Perl and is a system hogger. A Php/MySQL Board is much faster and runs better on a server.

Just my .2 cents.

Try Prevo.
$14.99 month/200mb space 6gb bandwidth and $5 extra a month for 1000mb more of bandwidth.

Does anyone have any experience with them though?

Worldzonepro.net supports PHP4, MySQL, 100-150MB space and a 3GB/Month Bandwidth at $36/year .. if the package suits you. They are also moving to a new data center soon and are pretty reliable otherwise.

Well, I think the out of raqs issue is just for 4webspace dedicated servers, a division of tera-byte, not tera-byte itself is getting out of space...

Gamesource, I replied you thread, take a look there.

I would recommend tera-byte.

On the subject of which software to use..

I use Ikonboard for my boards now - it's a free piece of software as well.

Don't know what it uses on system resources but it is a very good piece of software from my point of view.
