View Full Version : Accused of fraud?

My experience with WorldWebHosters.com (WWH) is nothing but horrible as they have provided poor customer and technical support in addition to deplorable server up time.

I had 2 domains hosted with them (first lesson: don't go with one host for all your domains - if there's a problem, all your domains are screwed!) and I've had nothing but problems with WWH. My domains were inaccessible more times than I can count (they had problems with name-based domain resolution on their servers) and their customer and technical support was unresponsive and unhelpful.

An example of their technical support is when I e-mailed them at least 4 times to look into why Webalizer (for profiling web visits) wasn’t working for one of my domains. The one reply I did get was to say that I didn’t turn on that feature in the control panel; if they had even bothered to check, they would know that I had it turned on. The Webalizer tool issue was never resolved.

They may have also caused me a job when I e-mailed an employer with links to my online portfolio only to find the site was inaccessible a few hours later, followed by a "thank you for applying but found someone else" letter from the employer.

On Dec. 17th 2002, one of my sites and their WWH site (being on the same server) both brought up a "Kiwanis Club of Omaha" site when you typed in the URLs. Somehow the "Kiwanis" site became the default site for all the domains on that server.

When I e-mailed them to cancel and asked for a full refund, this is what they wrote back:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Both of your accounts have been deleted and the payments refunded, even
though you used a total of 7 months between the two domains and then
requested a refund. Since this appears to be fraud, the system will
block you from being able to order in the future to prevent further
theft of service.

They accused their customer (me) of fraud when I asked for a full refund for all the problems they have caused me. And they have now blacklisted me to an online payment company.

I have since moved onto to 2 different hosts for my 2 domains. I am scarred by my experience with WWH and I am very leery of most web hosts now. I can't recommend my current 2 hosts until I have tried them for at least 6 months and then I'll post my comments.

I hope this helps other people.

One more thing: When you read reviews about WWH on the web, note to see if a good review has a WWH link that doesn’t just link to “http://www.worldwebhosters.com” but may have something like “http://wetrack.it/worldweb/af.cgi?45” because these “reviewers” get a kick-back from WWH for every referral to them.

The Web may be a wonderful and useful resource but it’s also a place where there are desperate people trying to make a quick buck.
