There are many uses for PHP that do not require mysql
It is possible to write to a file instead of using mysql (which is what cgi scripts do), just not alot of them are written for PHP

This is a good deal of course, but the bw comes at the price of .50 per GB so you have to add that two the 10 bucks per month.

If you read the thread title, you will see this is the free hosting that is being offered, not the paid version

FREE Unlimited Webspace, Unlimited Bandwidth, FTP, PHP, Control Panel, Domain Hosting

But I am sure hostultra would be happier if you signed up for the paid :p

This does NOT mean you have done something wrong
at the moment we only want signups from major English speaking countries
Please try again in a few weeks

I don't get it, I live in Australia and the Commonwealth Government only recognises English to be the language spoken here, therefore it is a bit of a contradiction to that message.

Oh well, not to worry

Can you show us a site that is hosted by your free service HostUltra, so that we can see what the pop-up is like?

*scratches head* Paid has 1gb of space, while free has unlimited? How does that work?

The free may have unlimited webspace but there is a filesize limit.

Both free and paid hosting have unlimited space and bandwidth

On the paid hosting package you pay for the bandwidth/space you use, but you can use as much as you want

Okay... I think I am beginning to understand...

With free, what is acceptable data transfer? 1gig? 5gig? 100gig?

HostUltra
January 26th, 2003, 08:07
100gig is fine if you can even do that much
there is no limit

So if I were to set up a website, say on fishing with tips and news and the like... and it wasn't breaking any rules and there was no hotlinking and all files were to do with the website -

I can get as many people possible to my site and it doesn't matter how big my site gets or how much is being transfered?

sounds fair and good :)

HostUltra
January 27th, 2003, 10:13
yes, as long as you obey our terms you can use as much space and bandwidth as you want

Soujirou
January 29th, 2003, 22:41

You know what you can try? Try to put your country as US or Canada, and it'll let you register. Registered an account like that, but haven't tried if it works or not.
Anyways, about the unlimit space, I don't know if you would even have the patient to put 100 mb into it. The size transfer is quite low. :)

We do manual checks on all accounts
You will be caught if you do that

I don't think so. There have been test of how much a flat-file database can take compared to MySql. And MySql came out on top. It can handle more users at a higher demand than a flat-file database. I don'w have any links to prove it, but I have read about it before and have seen some tests on it. This also goes for the flat-file databases.

On registering with HostUltra when your not in a desired country all you do is this:

1. Find either a telenet or a proxy service that is in a perffered country. If you ar ein China make sure you are going thru a firewall and a proxy before you conet to the proxy or telnet server.
2. Sign up.

I don't know if HostUltra has a list of free proxies and telnet servers, but it does work if you do it right.
