I just started up a web hosting website for hosting gamers, and since I have 40GB of space and 100GB/monthly bandwidth, I offer the following at no charge...
300MB of space
http://www.lord-dragon.com/~username
Free phpBB, XMB forums (your pick, we install for you)
Unmetered bandwidth
24/7 Tech Support
**Linux server **
98.1% Uptime +
Perl, CGI, PHP, mySQL, etc.
No ads, banners, etc.
*Currently: to sign up, PM me. Soon, however, the form will be online*
...and this new thread is for Jan, who asked if I would make a new one.

wouldn't it be better for you to stick a max traffic/month on an account?
offering unmetered only makes sense if you lease your own line so you wouldn't have to pay for the actual amount of traffic. If you're limited to 100Gb/month that would be safer for you.

I've been running the forum Games Unlimited for a few years now...I found Xtremesite, and thought it may work for a bit, but now that it's permanently crashed, I need a new host for the forum. I just need some space. I use Invision Board, and I can install it myself, no problem.
EDIT: Wait...you don't offer FTP, do you? Dermit...

Heh...it'd be nice if you'd let me run just the forum. I haven't coded anything outside of a forum in a LONG time.

Carebear not really cos people these days just use it for their own usage so like only 20 people visit a month. and their not proffesional websites so they arnt gonna get like 30,000 people a day downloading 10files every second.

Just take a look at some of the requests on here. Saying you don't have any limits will attract that type of people.
Where something like a 500Mb/month traffic would aim it directly at personal sites. You can still have an unspoken "unmetered" rule then but it'll discourage the ones that are looking for high transfer.
This isn't a put down of Dragon, I think the offer is really good :). I just think like other people have said in other threads... good rules and limits are what keep free hosts around.

Actually right now Lord Dragon isn't up because my host tells me that since my account was just re made yesterday, that Apache was restarting, something like that. It's annoying since I was working on it yesterday, but soon this'll be all over once it's up again.

Dragron776,
Quick question or two:
1. You are offering unlimited/unmetered bandwidth but you only have a 100GB account
2. What is the business model. 100GB costs you money but without ad space you not making an income from it at all. I am just curious as I have looked at what free hosts offer and how they generate income. I cannot see yours. What am I overlooking in the free host industry.

He's doing it to be nice. Ever think of that? Not everything revolves around money. And anyone who will use more than 100GB should think about having a paid hosting.

His host has an unmetered policy itself.

My host is a freaking moron. Not only does he ignore most of my messages, he obviously messed around with my account - thus the reason that it's down and all the data is lost ONCE AGAIN
Yes, I offer unmetered bandwidth. We'd never even come close to our limit, it's 100GB/month for christ sake :confused2
