Ok, this is what I need

-PHP, CGI, SSL
-Unmetered bandwidth (not one of those "pay per gigabyte deals")
-At least 100 megs of space
-My SQL (I only need 1 database, but would prefer the ability to get more)
-A cheap price. I would prefer a pay-per-year deal where you need to pay an amount per year, or at least $10 a month. As cheap as possible.

If you would know anything about....everything.

You'd know that http://127.0.0.1 is the same as http://localhost

In other words, http://127.0.0.1 is your localhost ip. Try tracerouting it, best damn network you've ever been on.

Ok, I know unlimited is asking an impossible thing. What would you suggest would be a good bandwidth amount for a fairly popular site?

I do not know if it is SSL or called SSH. It is whatever that thing is that includes part of a page in it. Maybe it is called ASP, I don't know.

I don't need a site for business things. Win2000hoster.com sounded good, but I'm confused. I am running this site (http://onlinedigimon.com), so I don't know if it'd be the right place for it, or which I sould get. Redhat or Win2000. It looks very good though. I do not know much about linux, I just want a normal host and transfer files via FTP. Would that still be the right host for me?

Joseph, it's called SSI. Server Side Includes.

I'd suggest www.enhancedhost.com or www.solidinternet.com

Solid host has no CGI. I don't know about enhanced host.

I was really set on Win2000, but I do not know if it would be right for my site, or which plan I should get.

If your going to use Win2000hosters, I suggest the Linux servers as they are generally more reliable and faster.

But I don't trust unlimited hosts, so this is your call.

"Win2000Hoster does not allow any of the following contents to be stored or linked to from any of its LINUX servers:

- Online/Offline Games and Anime Sites"

They ban anime sites? That sucks... ok, I need new ideas.

How about 7gb instead of unlimited? Anything you'd think was good, but no less then 5gb.

I would also like to be able to host a messageboard or video files. All the sites say no CGI-based Messageboards. >_<

I found some hosts. Let me know if any're good:
----------------------------------------------
http://www.splicehost.com
100MB
"Unlimited" bandwidth
80 Pop mail
40 subdomains
25 MySQL databases
CGI/Perl/SSI/PHP/Frontpage
ControlPanel/FileManager
$50 a year
----------------------------------------------
www.3shost.com
300MB
"Unlimited" Bandwidth
"Unlimited" Pop mail
100 subdomains
100 MySql Databases
100 ftp accounts
CGI/Perl/PHP/Frontpage/C++
$65 a year

Host is extremely fast!
-----------------------------------------------
www.gnxonline.com
400MB
"Unlimited" bandwidth
35 Pop mail
MySQL Databases
SSI/PHP4/Frontpage/CGI/Perl/ASP
$70 a year

Lol, no comments? :D

I went to the support area of 3shost.com. They verified 100 MySql databases and 100 FTP accounts as part of thier pro plan. I've seen site that give away 100 megs and 9 gigs of bandwidth that are slow and have less mysql and subdomains.

I'm gonna ge ther linux pro plan for $65. As luck would have it, it's my birthday, so I am covered for about 2 years.

check people-host.com, they're pretty cheap (dont know if they're good, a couple of my freinds use this host)

I contacted 3shost a second time. Seems they are eager for my business with them, so they said they'd let me host video files as long as they are downloaded, not viewed directly.

I got an email from gnx online. 1 Mysql account and no subdomains. Forget them then. :p

3shost seems really good. Go'n with them.

Hello,

Best deal your going to get is "un-metered bandwidth". This however isn't something i'd recommend. Even with set limits some companies "oversell" meaning they offer more than they can provide or don't bank on you using all of the amount quoted. However, there are exceptions.

I Suggest additionally going with a host and paying monthly. No contacts or monthly contact and a good reputation. You have so far no even considered any which I would consider of a "good reputation".

http://www.hostnexus.com
http://www.myacen.com
http://www.iminteractive.net

Those are the three I recommend of the top of head, however if your prepaired to spend some more:

http://www.futurequest.com

I would suggest FutureQwest as being the best of the four I have just listed.

Good Luck getting $65 / year for Unlimited Data Transfer... I am paying $100 / month for a dedicated server with 300GB Transfer (SEE) :p

If I were 3shost.com, I wouldn't let anyone to pay me $65 a year and use up or over 300GB... see the point? :classic2:
