Hi,

The server of my paid host is down because they are installing some new software. Now when sombody visits my website the homepage of the host loads. This is not very client-friendly because visitors of my site could think that the site does not exist anymore.I mailed my host about this and asked if it was possible to show a page "this site will be up again soon" or something like that. Now my host sais that "all hosts are doing it".And that he will not put up another page...Is it truth that all hosts do this?

:( sorry to hear about that. your host should have notify you their plans which might affect your site.

*unreliable* and from your message, they are running away from responsibility :D

So what you're saying is that not all host are doing this?Which would mean that the admins of my host are lying :devious2:

my opinion, probably excuse and it's a matter of your satisfaction... if you satisfy, you probably said ok... let's hope no more next time......

I know my host doesn't.

I think they're just taking advantage of the downtime and using your visitors as a marketing tool for them. If they can redirect to their site then they can redirect to a custom "down for maintenance" page as well. I think you're very right to complain
