If you plan on being here for 30 minutes or more, could you check your download/upload stats now (write them down), and then check them before you leave, but if you just move to another forum, check after you do that one? I will explain why later :P

Huh?
What download/upload stats?

If I click on my connection icon, it tells me how long I have been connected, how much downloaded and how much uploaded in that time. I just want to see how much, just from surfing forums you use in 30 minutes or more.

I don't have this Eh-Dee-Ess-Ell thing you speak of, but if you want my records for the past thirty minutes, and even if you don't, here they are:
I have uploaded 437,492 bytes compressed 73%. I have downloaded 2,395,413 bytes compressed 9%.
I made this graph to represent it:
######### 54% .
$$$$ 26.5 /|\ $=2×&+7(#)
%%%%%%% 99% | %≠14
&&&&&&&&&&&& 64¢ === ≈$+#²
***** №7("Represent" it in a purely artistic sense, mind you)

I dont know if this is accurate but I got about 3,000,000 both on sent and recieve.. I just subtracted my connection time because I was already connected for 3:45 hrs ... that is S:27,600,000 and R:39,000,000 all in all. for 3:45 hrs

Ahh... that makes sense... though it's easier said than done...
Duration: 3 days, 12:31:47
Sent: 103,541,781 bytes
Recieved: 1,137,480,756 bytes
Duration: 3 days, 13:12:43
Sent: 103,658,894 bytes
Recieved: 1,137,491,942 bytes
I don't really feel up to figuring out the difference myself right now.
I can guarantee you this is not just from browsing forums though. You're recieving and sending bytes when you're not even doing anything online.

Okay, I will tell you why I want this. A couple of days ago I received a HUGE bill, totally out of my payable abilities for my November usage. After checking the bill I saw that I had used well in excess of my allocated limit. The two previous bills were a healthy amount and no excess. After ringing accounts, they checked what my next bill would be and it is even higher. This is total cow dung! My January usage is already 80% of the limit. :nervous:
I don't share files, or anything else that would warrant such a high usage, rarely check sites, especially those that have a flash intro and all the other bandwidth eaters. My biggest single download was Netscape 7 when I first got connected.
I just want to prove somehow that their metre is up putt. They have lodged a trouble report, but I still panic that they will say it is my fault. I have even disabled images for the first time since 1998 when I had a 250MB limit

theyre meter must be cheating. :D
I see that dsl in your place is not unlimited... in my place we pay for a fixed amount and we don't have bandwidth limit.

Of course I knew there was a limit, and just going by 5/6 years of internet usage, I knew I would never meet that limit.

try using some software like http://www.dumeter.com (if know there are others but that's the only one I can think of right now) and check it regularly and compare with what your isp says you're using?

You're on a plan with a pretty small limit aren't you, Jan?
I'm only on dialup, but in half an hour of just browsing forums and such, I'd do about 5mb or so...
So if you had a low limit, I could see how it would be easy to go over it, especially with adsl...

Who are you using Jan, if you don't mind me asking? I know we have some fairly tight restrictions down here (though, a little birdie tells me that is going to change ;)), but even so you would have to be a fairly high volume user to hit the limits of even the more expensive providers. My guess is, your account needs looking at. If you read Whirlpool, you'll find that it's not an uncommon occurence.
Cheers

Something very weird has happened here today. As at 6 hours connection time I had over 43MB combined upload/download, now at 10 hours it has dropped to around 27.5  Either they have fixed the errors or their usage rates are really up the putt :confused2
Gary it is Telstra and I joined whirlpool a couple of days ago.

Netspace has crap performance, but with a big download limit, whereas Telstra usually has great performance with a ---- download limit.

You'd think everybody would have blazing fast, unlimited and cheap connections by now.
Well, the only thing I hate about my ADSL connection is that the server automatically resets itself every 24 hours to clear up IPs. This really gets annoying when I'm downloading something big and it's going real slow....
Oh, and the other thing that gets on my nerves is the comical upload speed... not much faster than 56K... it's 64K
