I tried to host a website on my own computer, but my ISP doesn't allow that. So now i'm looking for a computer with internet access where I can install my own webserver, PHP and MySQL. I prefer a windows computer, but a unix based i fine to me too.

Thanx.

get a new ISP or connection.

to install apache you need to be root - someone would need to be very trusting

Can't get a new ISP or connection, don't have the money for DSL (slower), and there is only one cable ISP, so.

Or someone would have a win98, like me. You can run a nice server on that (like me).And if you configure everything, and if you have a firewall, you don't need to consern about hackers.

You always need to be concerned about hackers. esp with win98 and a free firewall

Hmm... Windows 98 and an HTTP server? Wee! What fun! I guess I'll just con/con the server and make your computer crash! It'll take less than a minute!

In other words: Even if you do find the right ISP, don't run any server on Win9x. Even a firewall won't stop it.

con/con ???

how about some creativity ;)

Coolin is right. it is a good idea to invest in some security. even if it is just for a small group of people word will get out, and you will become a target.

You people are right, but I'm giving it a shot at freeshell.org. If I can get a MySQL server to work there.

Anybody knows how to download something to freeshell?

Does Freeshell allow you to use background processes on their server? In other words, are you allowed to set up a server there. I don't think this is allowed on any free shell and your account will be terminated immediately.

Then I don't need to delete my account myself :p

They are pretty useless.

They are pretty useless. Ya, what's the use of a shell when you can't abuse its resources ;)
