Don't you just hate them, how many have there been now! Like 5 posts everyday about them wanting mods and all that. Im afraid I had to learn the hard way->If there isn't an audience there will be no forum. Im just sick of seeing them everywhere! They all want a piece of the forum market!! Well I say piss off

Yeah, but the Free Webspace forum is even worse! Every day, I come on, and I see twenty people asking for PHP/MySQL and/or CGI hosts just so that they can host their stupid little forum that won't even get 500 hits, much less 500 members. I've come to this conclusion: 90% of the people asking for MySQL on the Free Webspace forum don't even know basic SQL commands.

You know what I hate even more - people starting forums where there are already a million and one forums about the same thing - webspace for one, graphics for the other. Also, people who make sites and don't WANT to learn. Everything starts somewhere - forums always start without members or posts, it's luck of the draw and hard work which pays.

I totally agree with this. That's why I prefer making sites about topics that few others have covered. Aimoo Masters is currently the only board, besides the support forums, that caters to helping Aimoo users. My FreeBoards site is also one of very few sites about different message board providers. I'm planning on starting other sites - one for free domain providers and another for promoting geography. I like to be unique. :D

i love discussion boards with like 30-some different forums with no topics or replies except 2 or 3 in the general discussion labeled "test"... "test #2"... and "plese join and post!"...

In all my webdesign career, I've only managed to get ONE site going. And it was tottaly great. It was known by everyone in that department :)
Unfortunately it covered a quite controvercial topic, (read illigal) and it got shut down by the police.
In just a mather of weeks it gathered about 200 active members :)

definition of newbie is a person that is new to something.
and in that case your new to sql so it is ok to define you as a newbie. But moron? not really

using forum software (that you didn't write) doesn't make you a newbie to sql or databases. You can't be a newbie to something you know nothing about.
The newbie would apply to the fact that most are probably new to websites and forums is the modern equivalent of people using <blink>Look at what I can do</blink> years back or putting 50 animated gifs on a page with no content.
How many people here use an OS and how many people actually know what's involved in OS design?
The fact that someone does or doesn't know something doesn't say much about them. If all you need to do is drive your car to and from work everyday there's not much point in knowing how to build a car from scratch is there?
Newbie might mean "to be new to something" but most times I only see it used in the context of "I know something that you don't, bow to my superiority" but that's just me I guess *shrugs*

You'd have to have just a MINIMUM of knowledge to be able to install and setup a sql php forum, don't you think?
Ask my dad to do it. He wont be able because he really dosnt know anything about it.
Ask some other dude, and he'll do it, because he at least has a minimum of knowledge about it.

Everyone uses an OS, and everyone should know a lil how it works. It's written in the windows manuals that windows is a program that takes charge of your computers equipment for you, it controls it. There you know a little more now about OS's. But making an OS is a different story, you'll have to talk about programming then, not about OS knowlege. And in general people don't know anything about programming because they dont need it. My point:
If you 'need' a forum -> you make it
If you need your OS -> you make it, thus the lack of people making their OS's.
And about the car driving thing.
There are 2 entire sections in the car license driving manuals that cover the whole mechanical system of a car. From the engine to transmission to gas tank to everything. And there are questions about this at the exams.

A good part of people who look for hosting can't seem to distinguish between transfer and bandwidth. Even a remarkable number of hosts can't either. It can bother me at times (especially when a host does it) but I understand that some people either don't want to take the time to learn the difference or can't be bothered and I just accept that. In the end it doesn't change a thing if they call one by the other.
There's things I can't be bothered with either. Like who won some sporting event last night and to other people it means the world. We're all just different :)

(And yes I tend to post something and then add a few other bits to it a few minutes later. It can drive some people crazy so sorry ;))
