I have a dial up connection and when i dial (i'm in AUSTRALIA) i get that pesky "Your call could not be connected" message. (probably from not waiting for dial tone). I've tried that checkbox that says "wait for dial tone" and that didn't work. Any help?????

Retry a couple of times and it should work. Maybe your ISP was having some technical problems at the moment.

Nah, it happens constantly. I figured out what it was but couldn't fix it. My modem waits for the line to be connected and dials to soon so the first digit is not dialed properly therefor i get an error message. Does anyone know how to get the modem to wait a certain amount of time before dialing?????

Don't know if this will work but try putting an extra digit in front of the phone number -- maybe the dialer will just lose the extra one and dial the complete phone number correctly.

In your dialing properties, add a few commas in front of your phone number. Each comma will add a small waiting time.
eg: ,,,XXX-XXXX
