The weather bureau has forecast extreme fire danger
You know it's bad when "fire" becomes a weather report...heh

I live in ACT... the fire has come near where we live, but were safe at the moment. Weve had to pack and stuff, and water everything outside. The fire has done over $150 million dollars damage...
The Government is giving everyone who lost their homes $10,000 dollars for personal items and considering giving them a grant to rebuild their homes... and heaps of shops and businesses and stuff are giving away free things to the unfortunate people :( (clothes, food etc)
On Saturday, which was the worst, it has been named (for Canberra or ACT) "Our Worst Day"

One astronaut mentioned he was amazed as he circled the earth at how many wildfires were burning at any given time...something like 200. It's part of nature unless artificially started. :devious2:

Seems to come up often that fires were started on purpose and they usually end up being incredibly devestating (the ones that make the news here are anyway) :(

Up to 15 years jail for lighting fires in a total fire ban period. One of these guys was only 15 and remanded in custody and will appear in ACT children's court tomorrow. He lit 5 fires (that they know of). It used to be A $2000 fine and/or 2 years in jail, but the penalty was raised last year or the year before, because of the devasting fires caused by arsonists.

I live in Victoria's SthEast burbs, a water resevoir fire was within 1km of my home the other week. In a high-risk bushfire area, I am very worried bout the upcoming temp's in the next week or so, high 30's and low 40's (bout 110 farenheight i think). Lets hope idiotic fire bugs don't feel like causing a bit of trouble.
Anybody who's in the North East of VIC, I hope those fires get under control and my sympathy goes out to the victims of Canberra. Also, you'll be glad to know I donated to the appeal at the Comm Bank.

Looks like NT is the only place free of fire but we are getting a decent wet season this year, the dry season (winter for you southerners) is when our fire dangers occur. We had a huge downpour Sunday morning that would have doused all the fires in two minutes had it been down south

Can you put a detour sign in the sky for some rain to the eastern states, it would be great. This is my first summer without being able to play backyard cricket, coz my lawn is dead and I feel guilty bout watering it coz of the water restrictions.. BTW, well done aussies on 2nites match, the poms really suck!
