Well, seeing as we have another post your pic thread, I guess it's about time for another desktop thread. No one keeps the same background image that long anyway, right? ;)
Mine: http://thaportal.com/desktop.jpg
So, let's see some nice desktops.
Oh, yeah, one other thing. Does anyone know some good sites, other than http://artofgregmartin.com to get some nice large (>=1600x1200) backgrounds?

3584x1344... that would be nice. what are you using as second display adapter? I found it to be insanely difficult to still find a decent PCI video card almost two years ago, can't imagine still being able to find one anymore now

I'm not using anything as a second display adapter yet--I still only have one monitor.
It's not too hard finding a decent PCI video car though. Most computer stores still stock plenty Radeon 7000/7500 and GF4 MX cards.
Then again, I could always just use my onboard video for a second monitor.

i need to start working on my active desktop. I am probably for now gonna use a Hitman 2 background, i like that game. After that ill probably cook something boring up, or get my norwegian friend to make me something.
We shall see what the future brings us.

It's exceptional if a store still has a PCI video card here and then it's either a 4Mb card or a $200 one which I just wasn't willing to spend on a secondary video adapter.

Well, some people like me are fortunate to have 1 GB of ram in their boxes, meaning its just a little bit gone.
Windows with all my IM's and everything started uses 200 MB of ram for me. The rest can go to games and everything if i play them.

Windows XP :), but do note that i do NOT have swap, so everything gets dumped in mem, instead of about 100 MB or so in swap.

I just set my swapfile to 0.. 59160K in use after a reboot, same as before. It does climb up fast towards 400-500Mb if things like Photoshop or Dreamweaver or AutoCAD are open.
Also it doesn't really change that much if you turn the swap file off. Executable and DLL's and the like are opened by the loader as memory mapped files. Just part of the file will actually reside in memory, parts that haven't been accessed yet will be mapped into the memory space but will be backed by your HD and not actual memory until they're used.
