m2v video

Ok guys this is been doing my head in for weeks and finally took my mates advice to ask u lot :)

I have this mpg video that needs a m2v codec to see and I was trying to convert the mpg files into .wmn using windows media encoder 7 and into .rm with real producer. I got other videos converted but cant do with the m2v ones. I read the FAQ for windows media encoder and it says i cant add more codecs than the ones already :(

Now my question...

How can I make this m2v video into a .wmn???

Ive though about recording the video while watching it so I downloaded SnagIt 6 but it doesnt seem to work *even when it did a couple of times* Is there any other prog I can record the vid while watching it with wmp??

its quite large and a bit slow, but those guys know everything about encoding, decoding, converting...and they have all avilable codecs updated reglarly
