My stupid friend changed the resolution on my other computer to a setting that my computer cannot display. It is now only snow, and I can't even find my mouse to change it cuz it wont stop moving.
Is there anyway I can fix this? Otherwise, my friend's life will be shortened derasticly (sp?)

Heh, that happened to me once, I just thought my monitor was dead, I took it to the computer shop (the box) and he hooked it up to a larger monitor and reset the display. So if you know of someone with a larger monitor, hook it up.

boot into safe mode, change the resolution, and reboot into normal mode,

Ok. I have the moniter for this cpu. I will probably just boot it up in safemode.
Looks like my friend will live after all :biggrin2: Thanks again!

an alternative is learning on how to change the resolution using just the keyboard... I had to do it several times a while back because I had to keep changing monitors between computers, it's not that hard :)

I know using the keyboard didn't work with me! I tried using the keys to start/controlpanel etc and it just didn't work on this occasion. I try everything before calling for help, believe me. It might work on the newer machines, but that was on my old clunker that I had the above problem.

Ctrl-Esc to get the start menu, then the up arrow to Settings, the right arrow key to select Control Panel and then enter/return. Press d and i to select the display icon and enter/return to start it. Ctrl+Page Up one time to move to the Settings property sheet. Tab to get to the resolution trackbar and then use the left/right arrow keys to select a different resolution. Alt-A to apply the new resolution and then pick the proper OK/Yes if a dialog pops up.
Should work with any version of Windows since Win95 :)

Personally, I feel that booting into safe mode is much easier. Why would anyone try to use the keyboard when they can simply go into safe mode and switch it? And besides, who is going to sit there and attempt to memorize steps to something they probably will never have to use. It's foolish

The problem I am having in safe mode, is that it is under my username, and it boots up to my other (working) username in safe mode. Its Reso. is fine. Mine is screwed. it wont let me change users while in safe mode.
Any ideas?

It's foolish because I couldn't always just reboot the computer and it's not like it's that hard. It just seems like a lot but I use all of those keys anyway as it is and if you've had to change resolutions a few dozens times you have a fairly good idea of where each control is as well
I used to have it happen a fair number of times under NT where I didn't feel like staring at the test screen and just accepted the new resolution without trying it first. Rebooting and selecting vga mode is a bit excessive then.
