My cousin just bought a PC133 512 MB SD ram.

When he took out his old one, the new one stated above doesn't work.

It just came out with a strange sound yet there is nothing shown on the monitor screen.

Can you help him?

Make sure it is properly in the slot. The first time I inserted new RAM it was slightly off by just a notch and I also had the blank screen. That particular box it was very hard to do anything in (as it was so crowded) and the RAM was probably the worst to get right.

First: Make sure it's compatible with your motherboard
Second: Make sure it's inserted correctly
Third: Most likely a bad stick of ram, return to the place of purchase and get another one.

I think I inserted it correctly.
I am not sure if it's compatible with his motherboard
He ordered the Ram online, so I think that the RAM is not working. Like the first time he took out that RAM, he told me it's extremely hot.

Are you sure he didn't put it in backwards? Yes, you can do that. It does get extremely hot and you can smell it. :D

Take out the RAM and stick an old or another one in(properly) and see if the computer boots. If it doesn't, there's something wrong with your motherboard or your software just sucks. If it does, then try reinserting the new one in and see if that works.

Usually Generic RAM isn't quality RAM. And you can always RMA the chip back to the site where you bought it from.

Thanks for your answers.

He told me yesterday that he took the computer to a store and fixed it.

:D yet he told me there is another problem that his whole screen is dark blueish.
