IMHO, the best free webspace provider has got to be F2S.com

This is what I've found - any disagreements/problems?

The whole thing seems very fast to me (I joined about a month ago). FTP uploads are much faster than tripod. Page sometimes a little slow to start loading when I key in the URL, but once it kicks in it's a very satisfactory page download speed.

Ample space for most people's genuine needs. I always used to think I needed more space than I really do. Use another host for any downloads and link to them, because ZIP, MP3, EXE, and most others are forbidden to download - but it lets you upload them all :-(

Not very user-friendly but that's bearable for me.

I don't know if you are new to f2s.com but here is the biggest disadvantage of f2s.com

I am in the USA and I find that the MySQL database is extremely unreliable and often very slow. If you are in the UK, things maybe faster and more reliable.
I have the phpBB board set up there and often time it does not even connect to the database. And remember that f2s.com only offers 5 MB of MySQL.

I have heard that just regular page on f2s.com is not too bad if you don't use database. I only use f2s.com for my phpBB board so I don't know about the speed of regular webpages.

Otherwise, f2s.com is not so bad because of all its features.

But I would probably stick with tripod if i was him. They offer more space and are one of the faster FWPs

I think digitalrice is pretty good. FTP, no ads,PHP,CGI,SSI,faster than F2s. Only disadvantage is than they don't have MySQL, thats the reason my forum will remain at F2S.

I would have to agree that F2S is the best host. Digital rice has it's pluses...But when it comes down to it, I really dislike NT servers-especially with the new version that DR is running.
