Yes you can. it is quite easy. when you install a program, it should eventually ask you where you want it to install. just select the d:/ drive and go.

FYI, if you reformat your C drive, your programs will no longer work.

But then again, the programs on your C drive won't work anymore either... Or even exist, for that matter.

They probably would exist, just not usable.
It's called Raw Data, that's how the FBI, CIA, Csis, etc. can access files on your computer even if you thought it was already deleted.

On that thought, i was thinking of a case mod...
If an emp shockwave hits the hard drive, wlll it distroy it? or could people get the data off

I doubt it. I know if take a magnet to the hard drive it will erase it pretty good. The shockwave most probbaly scramble the data as far I know.

FYI: It might be a good idea to back-up your programs registery details, so you can import them in the event of a crash [great for games]
Also: A full format [zeroing] erases ALL data, ie, the whole hardisk is 0*

AFAIK, the FBI was able to recover data from a harddrive that was magnetized.
Also, new generation harddrives are shielded.

i tried that with a program a few weeks ago but it wouldn't work nor start. So that's why i was wondering if it really was possible.
btw it was office, and that needed some files from the C:\. However i wanted to install KaZaA Lite on my computer because the internet site's dont' really give you the newest downloads and i wanted to install that on my D:\

Most of my software is on my D drive, but then, Windows (XP) is on my E drive, backups on my C drive, and data on my F drive. Linux is in there too, but doesn't use drive letters so it doesn't count.

I am more reffering to an electric mananet, when you have open the part that says "DO NOT UNCOVER/REMOVE" metal casing on the drive. Yes the FBI maybe able to get some info, but not much, the Army will still be able to get more info out of it. And no the two departments don't have the same tools.
