You read it right! MySQL or postgreSQL remote hosting (database only) available at http://www.freesql.org
One request though: Use it only if you need it. Let's not trun it into another gcsnet.net affair ;-)

This is great! Is that your service? I am going to try to put a phpBB database there. I wonder how much MB space do I get?

Sounds cool, but I doubt if the speed is high enough to incorportate the db into a site or something.

Works great!!!
I uploaded my phpBB board and it is faster than the one I have at f2s.com. I have the .php scritps at datablocks.net and connect the database to freesql.org.
By the way, is this site new? This is my first time hearing about it.
Hope this one will last a long time.

I'm giving it a shot at ms-network.net, cause digitalrice doesn't seem to supporty php (phpBB). Thanx, now I can get my phpBB to work!

For what the hack do you need 10 databases?
You need only one cuz you can create unlimited tables...

If you're gonna use ms-network's MySQL, it's not going to work. (Its status is at off right now)
I thought Coolin or somebody mentioned freesql.org in some other thread recently.

Sounds great, but no-one has answered the important question yet - how much space do you get?

I don't suppose they would allow huge database setup's. It seems clear from this:
From freesql.org: "Now, I'm not saying this is the most ideal situation for hosting your data. For most production environments you'd want it coupled with your webserver. Clearly it's going to be slower. But maybe you just want to get your feet wet with MySQL but don't want to load/patch/admin it, maybe you want to see how portable your SQL code is, maybe your webhost doesn't have a database, maybe you want to compare performance (but not with MS SQL Server) etc."
You can e-mail the admin at ghuntress@mediaone.net if you have further questions.

Latest from their site:
"A new server is on its way! It will be dedicated to Sybase and Oracle. That should relieve the load on the MySQL and PostgreSQL servers :)"

Maybe the database name "dony" was already used by somebody else. You can try something else like "donyisme" and see what happens.

Although very slow (from this side) it does work. I tested it on my local machine using a remote freesql mysql database and it worked :D (I have a cable connection so that slows it all down a bit)

Sorry to be the bad guy here, but I`ve heard that using this service can cause problems, sorry that I can`t give you any more info, I read about it somewhere and for the life of me I just can`t find the thread again, it might of been regarding setting up BBoards with them, if I remember right people have noticed that they loose information and that this service can`t cope, I wish you all well, but be careful not to create a great site or board without backing up your work.
