Just install some burning software (such as Nero).

This works for me, and also all of my friends, and none of us have to install any specific drivers or screw around in the BIOS... just install Nero and burn away...

Well if it's physcially installed in the PC, than it'll be recognized in Windows.

MAke sure the jumper is set correctly.

Make sure the IDE ribbon(it's a big gray ribbon) is connected properly with the CD-RW.

Next, make sure the jumpers caps, are on the right pins(usually these jumpers can be found to the right or left of the IDE slot at the back of the CD-RW). Plug in a molex connector(one from your power supply, its like red, green, blue, etc.) and you should be all set(install Nero).

A little off topic but, if you paid "this moron" to fix your computer, than I'd take the computer BACK to him to have it fixed. Why waste time trying to fix something you have no clue how to fix when he can do it, and for free, since he apparently disconnected it? Just wondering..

I agree with Robert.. if you paid him to fix your computer then just take it back and tell him to reconnect the drive as well.
It's not that difficult to do but there's a few things you need to check and do to connect it yourself.

Also it shouldn't take longer then 10-20 minutes so there's really no a reason why you shouldn't be able to bring your computer in and take it back with you the same day. Make sure you ask him to boot it up in the store as well though so you're sure everything works this time.

The 3rd little cable is probably the sound cable, and therefore not needed. Usually the other cd-rom is used to play dvds or cds thus the need for the sound card cable. And it's not a jumper.

Jumper caps are little things that go around usually 2 pins. They are located on the side of the IDE cable slot. Usually you have to pluck them out with your finger and set them properly. There should be a diagram about this in the CD-RW's manual.

Hmm..I didn't think of that because my bios automatically configurates itself.
