webdude?? I've wanted to sign up for your pro version for a month but as you are aware there are problems.

But otherwise I feel more comfortable feeding money to you than some unknown place because at least you have been lurking around here for years.

I'm still confused about worldzone pro. It has ftp. It has NO web-based file manager like the free version? No access to that file spider thing thats on free version? No browser upload?

You might think I'm nuts for not just choosing the free worldzone and I don't need any fancy stuff nor even care about limited ad banners !!! just a place to host personal non-profit non-commercial educational websites. I CAN'T HANDLE FREE PLACES DISAPPEARING ANYMORE !!!!!!! Its turned into a complete nightmare in 2001. Even XOOM-NBCI gone now !!!! All the talk at Yahoo is phasing out free stuff for subscription oriented stuff.Geocities next? Lycos next? Photopoint gone, photoloft gone, ememories gone, ecircles gone.File storage places dropping daily.

You have seemed to indicate your free worldzone is not a huge financial burdon? It begins to baffle me why these free places with millions of websites fold without even an attempt to offer no-frills subscriptions.(maybe nobody will go for no-free but....)

I've been a WorldzonePro member since the beta release and its a great service. There have been some major/minor problems recently during the server migration but I'm sure everything would be back in action within a week or so.

By the way, WorldzonePro now comes with an awesome CPanel which has all you can dream of in a web-based control panel including a web-based file manager.

I strongly suggest you to wait for a few days and then signup for the yearly package (US $36!).

You may also checkout my WorldzonePro-hosted site at http://www-bollywood.com

yes..I guess I will just have to wait. I try to think $36 now is not $3600 next year.

I've spent the day snooping out economy pay places and there seem to be some good ones out there BUT I know nothing about the corporation that runs the operation.(fly by night?)

I've always stuck with the freebies of the internet but as of 2001 is there going to be one left? Every day another one gone if it be free websites, file storage, photo storage, guestbooks, counters or ? This stuff is getting so wierd maybe the conspiracy buffs can look into it? Ad dollars so weak everything jumps into pay only on the same day?

The great information superhighway..the internet..every classroom-school connected to the internet.I gave it to you and take it away.(remember mr.g? I don't think he's actually taking it away but..)

Its just my opinion that with all the freebies gone many many many are not going to bother with non-business websites if its all $$$$$$$$$. In some parts of the world the populations don't even have the $$$$$ us rich people do.

I'll pay for webspace but I'm not gonna pay for 30 million different things on the internet.

--excuse my ramblings !!!! (free email?)

Well whats happening is the larger older ones are set in their ways. The phrase "you cant teach an old god new tricks" applies here. Not to mention ad revenue flat out sucks. What's the biggest money making advertisor on Worldzone? That would be WorldzonePro. I advertise my own services, and have others there just to fill in the blanks...not to make money. That is nothing like what the old giants do....and that is why they are losing money..

Free is not free..

If it is just a personal site you do for hobby, just use free services. Geocities are good.

The problem is the free sites are disappearing like flies.

I guessed it and now even some free email services are starting to tell people its free no more. yes..geocities?? yahoo is now trying to re-structure their services away from ad revenue to subscriber type services although it is unknown if they will start charging for geocities.Geocites is not the old geocities but property of yahoo now.

There seems to still be a list of up to 500 free website providers but I don't think the list is fresh.Otherwise they all seem to be begging for money if they are still alive. Most of them love to shut down with no notification to anybody.

Thats almost the funny part. I'm looking for simple webspace to put up hobby type personal websites. A person goes to look for pay sites and they promote themselves with all kinds of fancy frills that I don't even need or want.I don't even mind an ad banner. Yet theres no middle ground. Pay for the fancy frills or deal with a free place that will fold up the next day. Even the free places are deleting sites wholesale for tos violations when there are none. Who's going to spend the time/money to research a site to see if it really has some violation on it?

It seems worldzone still has a free option. I've asked is it going to fold up and I guess the answer is NOT IN IMMEDIATE FUTURE.

Otherwise I don't mind spending $3 a month just to guarantee a place will be around.

An example..up to a short while ago if you had a hobby of railroad history you could get unlimited free space on some ralfan.net (forget the url now). I go there 2 weeks ago and theres a big message.NO NEW SIGNUPS.The story is the place is hosting 500000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000 gb of sites and they are filled up. O---but you can still get a site if you pay $10 a month.

Sooooooo..I'm getting tired.I've looked at pay places. One even is 'unlimited everything' for $20 a year. Some are $30-40-50. I love the 'unlimited'.(like some of the free unlimited's? you hit a certain point and they dump your site) I have no experience with these corporations and the way the internet goes they might pop up one day and fold the next.(with your money)

Angelfire-Tripod are good places.-- treatment is terrible !!!!! You could sit back and go on a hobby about complaining about sites there and every one will be removed. They don't even bother to check out complaints. Your just a piece of trash and a number and they care nothing about you.

I'd suggest http://freepages.rootsweb.com/ (url correct?) They are owned by LDS Church and they don't try to convert you but who cares anyway. My thoughts are maybe as such they are only attempting to host sites non-profit...i.e. if theres not a big dividend to stockholders maybe they won't fold up?

Can't ramble forever.... but another example.. my isp is msn.No complaints.I'm supposed to get 30mb webspace with it.Now I don't think they are even advertising that anymore.---- but there is a msn communities with 30mb of free space that I think anybody can get.Probably can get 50 of them. What good are they? The only option seems to be one of these very very simple basic web page editors provided by them. You need to download special software to use the place. THE DOWNLOAD DOES NOT WORK !!!!! On the alternative Earthlink gives a meager 6mb.I made a 6mb site there and have not been with Earthlink for 2 years and the site is still there !!!!! (can't edit it) I think at&t gives 60mb with them as isp. Enough !!!! todays trivia..where is http://www.escalix.com/ ?
