View Full Version : How Hard Would This Be?

I have two choices here. I have 7 tribute sites, and I don't want excessively long URLs, and I don't want to continue with Geocities. HOWEVER, my choices are getting to be as bad. Which would be easier to remember, do you think, of these two options? Remember, each URL is for a different tribute site.

http://grandanor.freeyellow.com/junerose/
http://grandanor.freeyellow.com/alexei/

(Now why did I write that out?!)

VS.

I would prefer to have them in directories so I don't have to login for each one (big problem), but I don't want my viewers to have to rememeber long addresses. Feedback requested!!

Why not get a free sub-domain from somewhere such as http://www.wzr.net for each one, and then you don't have to worry about the actual host address. :)

Which was one of my original questions. :) Unfortunately, all subdomains seem to have odd endings, and mine is a mainly educational site. If I come across a good one, that's certainly an option. What I'm trying to get a bearing on here is, which of these would be easier to remember - the longer, since it's more consistent, or the shorter?

The shorter one... Plus if you change hosts again, you don't have to worry about losing people.

You might also check out the free .com.kg domains... They're not too hard to remember.

.com.kg? Is there a site where I can register for those?

http://www.domain.kg

Thanks, ace0! But I found out how to get directories, so that problem's resolved, at least. Plus, all of these free domain name registration places require your server IPs, and I don't know them, and that may incur a cost, is that true or false?

It wouldn't cost you anything. If your host doesn't support domain hosting than you could always sign up with mydomain and redirect to your site.

It depends. Some hosts require you pay for domain hosting, while others don't. Like Prozen suggested above, you could always use mydomain to redirect... besides, *.*.kg domains are free, get 'em while they're still available! :)

LeX, how did you know that the person above was Phrozen? All I see is just a space as the username, very annoying IMHO.

Erk, nevermind about the above post, I just read the Testing Things Out forum and everything suddenly pulls together.
