View Full Version : Cheap and reliable SSL host?

I'm looking for:

50MB+ web space
5GB+ bandwidth
Email Alias/Forwarding
FTP
PHP
MySQL
PhpMyAdmin
SSL
99%+ uptime

I already have my own domain name (from Go Daddy), and I'll be getting my own SSL certificate soon (from GeoTrust). Right now I'm using discount-hosting.com, which is very good; however, they don't offer SSL and that's something that I need for my e-commerce store.

Ideal host: cheap, reliable, and has a proven track record (new hosts are OK, but ones with proven track records will be considered first, since I don't want my host to disappear after I pay my annual fee). :devious2:

BTW, if any of you experienced members have recommendations, feel free to reply as well. I'm assuming I'm allowed to have "requesting for services" and "asking for recommendations" in the same thread?

To be able to have your own SSL Certificate, your host must provide to you a static IP, an IP of your own. Otherwise, you can use a shared SSL certificate through your web hosting firm.

http://www.byzhosting.com may be worth looking at, they have been around for 3 years. :)

Thanks for your reply. Are shared SSLs any good for e-commerce sites? I read that there's a security pop-up (at least for IE) for shared SSLs. Would that scare my customers away, thinking that my site has been altered by some fradulent individual?

Thanks for your reply. The prices and products offered looks good. BTW, do you know what's the cheapest, yet reputable site out there, besides Byzhosting? Sort of like the "Go Daddy" or the "NameCheap.com" of the SSL market? I mean, it doesn't have to be a super, top-notch well-proven company; as long as it's reputable in these forums, I'm fine with it.

I did a search for it, but I only got the names of newer companies. And most of these aren't clear whether they offer personal SSL support, or shared SSL (most just write "SSL").

Yes, shared hosting would indeed scare some people away.

It is basically 1 Pop-up with 3 error messages.

I believe the first error is stating that the ssl isn't installed on the clients pc.

The second would be checking if the date on the crt is valid.

The third checks for which domain the ssl cert was registered too. It should match the domain you are using.

I would recommend getting your own ssl if you decide to sell products online.

Yes, I remember seeing this before (and it's mostly the third message that has the error). It kind of defeats the purpose of SSL, since buyers may hesitate giving out information after seeing that. BTW, northwind, is your site down? I can't seem to get on it.

Cheap and reputable don't always go hand in hand ;) I searched for SSL in webhosting offers and that is why I chose the above. Feel free to browse the search results of that forum :) When you get your certificate, www.sonichost.net is another good one to consider.

Actually, our site hasn't been down since March 7th. =).

And on march 7th we had to do a kernel re-compile and update cpanel.

If you are looking to purchase hosting for ecommerce related, we suggest gonig with host that has been around for sometime, new hosts come and go these days.

We include shared SSL in our plans and support personal SSL if you require one. Please email our sales@byzhosting.com if you have any questions.

Shared SSL security pop-ups? that never happened to us.

Shared SSL does not give out any error messages.

Any of our hosting plans would work for you with Shared SSL. You can add your own Static IP and get your own SSL for an additional $5.00/month on any plan.

Please contact me if you have any questions. I'd be glad to give you a demo of the Shared SSL service.
