timtams are, in the words of a now-addicted north american:
kinda of a weird sandwiched wafer thing with a cream in the center coated in chocolate. The first one you eat you think to yourself "huh. what's the big deal", then you have a second and you're like "hmm.. not bad", then "these are pretty good". Later, in bed, you start shaking and can't sleep because you're obsessing over them. and _then_ some twonky aussie says "nibble a teeny bit off each end, then use it as a straw to suck up some Port until you can just taste the port. Then sit back and eat the port-soaked tim-tam.". It's like mainlining crack. then they go to the airport leaving you with exactly 1 tim-tam.

Never heard of 'em, except for an identical post on here some time ago from a poster who was most likely you as well.
They're cookies though.

If Aussies say a Tim-Tam is a biscuit, and we all know that an Australian Biscuit is really a cookie, then I can conclude that a Tim-Tam is in fact a cookie.

i want a twinkie that's not ----ing stale.
no one ever buys them so they go bad on the shelf. and along I come and purchase something inedible.
so i guess an australian biscuit will suffice

When I lived in the US, my friends would send me packs of aussie chips. :)
Too bad they didn't send Tim-Tams... and its a pity there aren't any twinkies in Australia.. or Victoria at least.
There's some American Food Shop near my friends house that has Milk Duds.. i bought like 10 packs and finished 'em in two days.. mm.. milk duds with butter...

recipe for TIM TAM EXPLOSIONS
- arm yourself with a Tim Tam and your favourite hot drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate)
- bite off both ends of the Tim Tam to expose the wafer
- using the Tim Tam like you would a straw, put one end in your hot drink and the other end in your mouth
- suck furiously until the now Tim Tam flavoured liquid explodes into your mouth
- by this time (about 3 seconds) the Tim Tam has become all soft and squishy, like velvet chocolate, so before it falls apart and melts in your hands, shove the whole Tim Tam into your mouth in one gluttonous motion
- mmmmmmm
- if the Tim Tam breaks apart before you eat it, you lose :D
