View Full Version : Any Windows hosts around here?

I'm considering switching hosts... I won't be able to for a while, but sometime early next year I should be... if I see anything good here then I'll keep it in mind.
Anyhow, requirements (these are approximate minimums, you can go a bit under, I suppose, but not much):
250 MB space
6 GB bandwidth
CGI, Perl, PHP, and ASP
4 MySQL databases
Some sort of control panel (preferably Plesk, but I'm not picky)
10 subdomains
FTP access
Email forwarding
Uptime rate guarantee (this is screwing me over with my current host), 99.5% or better would be good...
About $6 a month... I know I'm asking a lot, so you can go a bit over, but try to stay close to the parameters here... thanks ^_^

If ya don't find any round here you can always try http://www.webhostingtalk.com in their request forum. They have alot of paid hosts there and they bring alot of offers to the table. =) GL with your quest. :D

I could use a reseller account instead. In which case the requirements are something like this:
2 GB space
12 GB bandwidth
CGI, Perl, PHP, and ASP
15 MySQL databases
Some control panel
Unlimited subdomains
FTP access
Email forwarding
Uptime rate guarantee, at least 99%
For that I think I can pay about $30...
Like before, there's some degree of flexibility, but don't go too far off...
(edit: I checked around, and I guess those requirements were kinda insane... I changed them around a bit to be more realistic.)

Hmm... thanks for the advice, D MaN. I'll go look there and see if I find anything.
Any Windows hosts here, if you have an offer, go ahead and make it. I'm still watching this topic, don't worry ;)

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention... I need support for either ASP or CGI/Perl forums. (One or the other is good enough.)
Everything else holds ^_^

Is Mysql a must? I don't find that nor PHP to be too common among Windows hosts.

Agreed, from your post, it looks like you need a linux host more then a windows.
Windows are "ONLY" really required when you need asp.net or ms access and all those ms modules.

ASP isn't all that common among Linux-type hosts, though...
Something like what these guys have, I'd say... except better ^_^

If you're a Linux host but can satisfy those requirements (including ASP capabilities) then I'm willing to hear it.

Correct, but www.worldzonepro.com will enable it for you if you want it. It costs extra per month though.

i don't think you could find a good w2k host that can offers 250mb at only $6/mo.
btw, i wonder why this forum doesn't have its own domain name. visitors will find it easier to get here as well as remember its name. That's why WHT outplay you guys.

I know some Linux hosts support ASP, I wasn't joking, you know ^_-;
worldzonepro seems to be out of my price range, though...
teppi, you think $6 is too little? Well, that's why I'm allowing some flexibility there... What are the prices on any good Windows hosts you know? As long as they're reasonably close, I think I'll scrounge up the cash somehow...

northwind, that's a reseller plan, right?
Are ASP or CGI/Perl forums enabled on your servers?
teppi

www.findmyhosting.com or www.aspin.com may help you.:D
btw, if you're not looking for a w2k host, then at $6 you may have more choice :o
w2k host is always more expensive than linux/unix ones.

Yes, it is our reseller basic plan.
And although you can put up a perl/cgi forum, I suggest you go with a php based forum instead like invision board, phpbb.
I say this because usually it takes up less resources and loads quicker at times of high usage.
Invision Board and PHPBB is included free.
Also, there is an easy install script for it in the control panel.

April 24th, 2003, 21:41
Why is so much of your site down?
ChronicHosting
April 24th, 2003, 21:46
not most of it, we have revented our site yesterday and we added more features to our site which will be completed this week, the old layout was well rather tacky and did not have many features.
k-san
April 24th, 2003, 22:17
Eh... I don't see any uptime guarantee on your site...
And what control panel is this?
teppi
April 24th, 2003, 23:04
go to www.findmyhosting.com to look for your suitable hosts, you can check the host reliability (server uptime) there.:D
k-san
April 24th, 2003, 23:09
Yeah... I would, but the Advanced Search there is having problems...
teppi
April 24th, 2003, 23:13
why dont you try "easy search". it's good enough, i've never even need advanced search

Probably because they have only been around a couple of weeks and have nothing to gauge it on.

Eh... by domain registration, huh?
11 days is a rather short time period to make two site layouts in, though...
Does anyone else have an offer? I've got about 10 months to find a new host in, anyway ^_^
ChronicHosting
April 25th, 2003, 15:39
lol i just got some more of the pages up, the TOS and the FAQ ones are the only one left, then ill start making the help desk, forums etc.
k-san
April 25th, 2003, 15:42
Eh, maybe sometime when your company's better established... I guess 10 months or so is enough time to judge, though.
I'd still rather have an uptime guarantee... v_-;
ChronicHosting

our uptime guarantee is 99.99%

99.99%
And... if your uptime isn't at 99.99% what're you going to do, then?

I dont know, but maybe we can work something out.

k-san, if you don't require a host for 10 months, I hardly see the point in continuing with this thread.
Bruce
April 25th, 2003, 21:48
I concur; ten months is a long time, perhaps even moreso in the hosting market. Prices will raise, hosts will open and close their doors...

Yeah... I'm trying to bookmark a few, and if they're still alive when I need them then it should be fine ^_^

No point keeping this open then, browse the boards for the next 10 months and bookmark all you want.
