View Full Version : Servus or Aletia Hosting?

I have narrowed my search which has lasted about 3 months down to three hosts:
Aletia Hosting (http://www.aletiahosting.com)
Servus (http://www.servus.ws)
I have decided that I want one of these hosts, so this post isnt looking for more offers. Servus has the best support :D but they host adult sites :(, will this cause much of a problem to me? Calypsis has the worst support. I can't notice any glaring errors in their sites, but if any people who are good at this sort of thing could have a look? Also if anyone has had any good/bad experiances with these hosts could they please tell me?
Many thanks for helping out a poor first timer like me :)

I would go with Servus, I have been with them for a while and with out a problem. You are right the support is great, and I have not had a problem with my sites speed or any down time.

Price | $9.95 | $9.95 | $7.95
Space | 200mb | 120mb | 80mb
Bandwidth | 10gb | 8gb | 4gb
POP3 | Unlimited | 60 | 40
CGI | Yes | Yes | Yes

MySQL | Yes | Yes | Yes
| (10 accounts) |(? Accounts) |(? Accounts)

Streaming | Yes | Yes | Yes
Subdomains| 10 | 6 | 4

Is it me or does Aletia soud too good to be true? I would love more opinions on these hosts as this is my fist time with proper hostind and I am scared to get it wrong :(.

They aren't necessarily bad. They put a lot into the plan I'll grant you that - maybe too much. Maintaining accounts like that for $10 a month is going to be more labour intensive than the others. Just because someone offers 10 gig for $10 doesn't mean you should just take it off the bat. There are a lot of things to consider in a host - support for one.
Of the three, servus is the only one that rings any bells for me, so I'd be inclined to go there (mostly due to the fact he's on the forums a lot which is usually a good sign), and others are saying nice things :)
Big accounts for a cheap price aren't always bad - just most of the time *grin*

Hello.
This might be some additional info that you would like to know.
About the MySQL. We don't really have a limit of database for this as long as the numbers are reasonable.
SSH and CronJob. Yes, but for an additional fee.
If you still have any question, please send an e-mail to us, as we check our mailbox more often than the forum.

I recently signed up for aletia when gcsnet.net disapeared. I have been more than happy with them. The support is excellent, we have always gotten responses to our questions, many within 15 minutes. Support has AIM and is available to talk to 24/7.

Gonzo's "proudly hosted by servus.ws" site is extremely slow to me, but servus.ws works well.
Strange?

Any site that on our server, which is very near to the bandwidth limit, will be slowing down.

You (servus.ws) are on tera-byte .. right? So would you be purchasing more bandwidth now?

Its because of popuptraffic.com, I have the tags in the <head> tag. I have tryed my site without the popuptraffic.com tags and it is really fast.

Well, I meant. According to the plans customers purchased, we set a bandwidth limit on a daily basis incase that the popular sites might slow down other sites on our server.
So if the sites near the bandwidth limit, some slow-downs might occur. When the next day come, the slow downs will be gone until it is near to the limit again.
Ashben, our total server bandwidth isn't running out. We still have many to go. It's just the bandwidth limit on our client's accounts which slow them down a bit. So you don't have to worry about it.
Actually, I think this is a good feature for both host and customers. First off, as a host, we will not be paying any additional bill caused by bandwidth issue by our clients that might dig a hole in our piggy bank. Second, speed of other accounts on the server will not be affected by the popular sites. Third off, clients with very popular sites don't have to worry about the "heart-attacking" bills generated from the overloaded bandwidth of their sites.
And gonzo, is the script I installed for you working well?

Ok .. I get it Donovan. By the way, if I purchase say a 4GB bandwidth plan, would my sites (irrespective of the number of hits) daily bandwidth still be throttle controlled?

Anyone knows what type of server servus.ws use?
someone mentioned the problem with alter.net, and a tracert servus.ws shows alter.net. Is there a problem with the speed?

In the reply to my question of their CP,
"We are using Cobalt Linux Raq 3 default control panel."
Does it mean they use Raq 3?

Yes. However, only sites which are very near to the daily bandwidth limit will be slowing down.
e-bird, we are using RaQ3.

May I thank everybody for their help, I have pretty much decided that I am going with servus as my host, even though they have less "stuff", as Donovan is often on the boards and seems very helpful, and I feel that is more important than any chat room (which BTW is the only thing I shall regret not choosing aletia for). Donovans is helpful, highly respected on these (and other) boards, nad Servus is well reccomended. Thank you all once again.
