My requirements are :
500MB disk space
10+GB data transfer
Domain registration
Subdomains (just 1 or 2, although not a neccessity)
24/7 FTP access
prompt support/assistance

I don't need CGI, PHP, PERL, MYSQL or cPanel etc. (not that I know how to use them!)

It is advisable to get your domain name separate to hosting. While there are some honest hosts around, some are not so honest and you don't get to own your domain. So to save hassles down the track, get a domain from www.namecheap.com or similar.

I will agree with Jan. Some hosting companies will not give you your domain back.

And in some cases, some hosting companies fail and well, if you cannot get in contact with them, your domain is going down with them as well. Although, you may be able to get your domain back after talking with the domain registrar.

However this is only in some cases and not all as Jan stated above.
