I bought a domain and would like to give my users some free email at my domain. I check out everyone.net, but they stick massive ads on every page of the user's webmail. I understand and respect the need for revenue, but when there's more ads than content on a page, it just gets ridiculous. Does anyone know of a good alternative to everyone.net?

The only free service I know of (since BigMailBox stopped offering a free version) is OemMail (http://www.oemmail.com).
Be aware that if you start offering free web mail, that may preclude you offering cobranded hosting later (at least using that domain).
CommunityArchitect, for example, offer email accounts with their hosting, which would not be compatible with email provided by others.
This may not worry you though.

Do you have your own server or a hosting account somewhere that you can point your MX records to?
If so, then you can install a free mailing program like Squirrel Mail (http://squirrelmail.org)

Will something like this work on a normal host with only cPanel access? Is it difficult to install?
And will it give me an unlimited number of email addresses?
[edit] I just found out that SquirrelMail doesn't allow a user to sign up for email themselves. This isn't what I want. I want to provide a free email service @mydomain for my users.

I dont know if its a solution or not, but if you have a cable line or DSL and dont mind having a bit of traffic from mail being sent, just get an old PC, install FreeBSD and grab my Mail server tutorial from http://tutorials.x-istence.com/ then look at other products that http://inter7.com/ provides. One of them is vqRegister i believe, and it allows you to have auto signups for a email adress. Works really well.
Then you can use squirell mail, or any other webmail that can access pop3 thru pop3 protocol, or like squirelmail have direct access to Maildir directories.
easily set up, but it takes some time and getting used to.

I believe you need IMAP access to use Squirrel Mail. And there is a way to allow users to sign up for squirrelmail. You just need to custom code it, or find it for free somewhere...A guy at my hosts forums made a script, but it's only to be used by customers of that host...
