A Word From The Founder
-----------------------
It has been my pleasure, since mid 1998, to embark upon a journey, a
journey to create a Free Web Host that did not display advertisements on
members sites. That was the dream, and that time, reality complimented dream
and the two walked hand-in-hand. Reality, however, had sharply shifted
directions in 2000 and by early 2001, a change was required, a change to place
advertisements on member sites, something which contradicted the dream, but at
the same time allowed a community, that built itself and thrived during the
golden years, to survive in the new internet economy. And still yet, the harsh
realities of the year presented themselves and the original popup
advertisements that were placed on member sites no longer supported the
service, adequately. Soon, thereafter, an Ad Bar concept was implemented in
the stead of the popups, but alas the performance did not meet the required
levels.
Now, I write before you all, to bid a farewell to the service that provided
an online home and community for the few years it existed. As unfortunate as
it is, RedRival's free services(all services provided for free, including
upgrade packages) will cease operation as of May 1, 2001.
Yes, it is true. Our previous Ad Network partner, providing popups which we
implemented on member sites, parted ways with us and, as such, we were
required to resort to the Ad Bar concept, with no reputable popup supplier
left existing. The Ad Bar, while delivering decent Click-through-rate
performance, would not meet the performance levels RedRival requires, however.
And this is why RedRival must close its doors. From Ad Network to Ad Network,
not a single one would provide a viable pay rate, as is common these days in
the online advertising market.
What happens now? For our members, to whom we apologize profusely for
notifying you on such short notice, it is time to move on and find a new host.
If you are looking for a Free Web Host, FreeWebSpace.net would be a good place
to start your search. If you feel you would like to move to pay hosting, your
host search might be a little easier, for RedRival might still be your answer.
RedRival will be transitioning into a pay host, with extended services,
highly competitive rates and the same great quality and
custmer service you've come to expect from a RedRival operation. Please post
to the Support Forums( http://www.redrival.com/discuspro/), regarding any
questions you may have about this.
That just about wraps it up. It is truely a sad day to see RedRival's Free
Web Hosting die, but it will breed a much better, more reliable, much more
stable host. Just before I close up here, I'd like to take this time to
personally thanks a few users who have helped out in one way or another, above
and beyond what was required of them, and made the operation of RedRival much
more enjoyable. In no particular order, the following
people deserve special mention: Phzzz, Jordan, WebPromo, Invader X, wce,
Jaala, htmlite, KimmiKat, Condorstats...there are many, many more that I have
probably missed, and for that I apologize. It is with members like this, that
RedRival has become such a great place to work.
Before I ramble on even further, I'll end it here, with this: Once again,
I'd like to thank all the members who've made RedRival such a great place to
operate, I hope even just a little of your great spirit flows over into
RedRival, as a pay host!
