hi guys,
I have a computer:
p4 2.4ghz
60gb hd
256kb ram
WinXP
Anyways I wanted to degrade it to win2000 but when I boot the comp and login in I get a message saying password expired click to renew. I try to move my mouse but my comp is frozen! I was wondering would there be anyway to run the installation before the login screen shows up?

if ya wanna do that you'll have to save your pc-win settings, then erase the win-xp from dos, then install win2000, ok :)

Are you speaking of the CMOS password (appears right at boot-up)?
In that case...
Clear the CMOS by either setting the jumper on your MB to "CMOS Reset" or by unplugging the computer and removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes.

Find anyone with a Win95, 98 or ME computer. Put a floppy disk in that computer. Make a bootable system disk (format the disk, copy system files, full format). Pop this disk in your computer and turn it on (assuming that boot order puts the floppy disk before the hard drive). Then, at the DOS prompt, type format c:/ :classic2:
NOTE: It might not detect your hard drive...in which case, um, wait for someone more experienced to help you out...
[edit]
Alternatively...Go into your CMOS (your computer should say something like 'Hit DEL to enter setup.' You should hit whatever key it tells you to.) Somewhere should be a boot order. Poke around, you can't hurt anything unless you actually change the values, and even so, you can always reset the jumpers. Anyhow, change the boot order to Floppy Disk A, CDROM Drive, Hard Drive or something like that. Then, pop the Win2k CDROM disk in the drive, reboot the computer and hit any key when it asks you to (so it can boot from the CD.) Go through the normal setup, making sure it formats your hard drive first.
Even if you got into XP and popped in the Win2k CD, it would tell you it's an older version of Windows and the installation features have been disabled.

okay heres what i've done so far. I went to a friends house and got his win98 boot disc and boot the computer with the disc. I typed in format C: in ms dos and it formated the drive. Now I'm stuck what do I do?

Change the boot order to CD first and then place the Win2k CD in the drive and let it install.
