Ok.. my st00pid computer is going crazy...

I have an AMD Athlon Xp 2100+ in my computer.. and it reboots after logging in...

a short-term solution is leave it @ the xp login screen for 5-10mins.. then login.. then it doesn't reboot.. it will reboot if i login straight away. this is only when i boot it up when cold.. as in for the first time that day.. or when its at room temp [during winter].

at my recent LAN party we cleaned it out.. as much as possible without taking off the heatsink.

when i reboot during the day.. it works fine... so whats the problem?

Config:

AMD Athlon Xp 2100+
512MB pC2100 DDR Ram [PQI]
some gigabyte mobo
ati radeon 9600 pro

its nothing to do with the vid card.. cuz i recently upgraded and it happened long before the upgrade

It really sounds more like a PSU issue than anything else. This cpu isn't likely to cause reboots like that.

What kind of PSU do you have? Also, what are the 5v and 12v rails running at?

Crazy ---- used to happen to me when I used win98 and the PC was new. We took it to Best Buy (the place we bought the pc from) and they said they fixed it and we bring it back and it happens again specialy in winter. I never figured out the problem but I switched to xp and it's fine. I also have AMD.:angry2: I hate it:angry2:

I'm quite happy with AMD myself...most of the other components of my PC are crap, but the CPU doesn't seem to be at fault for any of them.
