View Full Version : Sort of strange request....

Hello!

I guess this is one of the strangest requests this far ;)

Does anyone know about a FWP like this:

FTP
Only HTML/TXT files allowed
1-2 mb of space (no more, no less!!)
No excessive advertising (textlinks and buttons are ok)
Fast server

Optional:
Should allow filesizes of max 2-300k
CGI-BIN (and/or PHP)
Should have been online for awhile, so it isn`t
going to go down very soon....

In other words: I want a text-based host that`s fast, and
isn`t likely to go down within the next year or so.

and btw: I may be new to posting here, but I have been reading these discussions for quite some time (a year or two I think...)

Text only, Ok thats fine. But exactly 1-2 megs?

Welll... two megs is just an imaginary border ...
but if there is too much space, then someone might try to *use* it for something (like binaries-turned-textfiles... )
(just a strange feeling I can't explain...
Guess I'm a little paranoid ^_^;;

So you're giving people your FTP password and allowing them to upload? How about you set up a file manager on a free host with CGI that limits the amount uploaded and type of file uploaded?

Um,,, why would I give away my password and let people upload stuff? (that was really not what I had in mind....) :)

P.S. I already talked about a web based upload script.

Yeah, how would people be able to upload on all that extra space? Besides, only having 2mb space doesn't stop people; it's not like viruses are big files.

I think you are going to have to explain that one a little better... Then maybe we could help you...

I think d99janh means that a host that allows much space tends to be used for hosting binary files. Server gets slow, host loses money. Bye-bye host.

About those extra 13MBs, just leave 'em alone.

I'm getting more and more certain that I have seen a "text only" host. But where and when...

http://www.cyberspace.org/ & http://www.pi.dk are both text-only. cyberspace has a 1mb quota and is probably not the fastest in the world. not sure if either have FTP. and pi.dk is in danish.
