I finally got dsl. Boy what a difference. Once you get it you can never go back to 56k.

I just got cable a week ago. And I love the difference! After one day with cable, I couldn't go back. I downloaded Linux Mandrake 7.2 in half an hour with FlashGet! Compare that with 3 days on my old 56k modem!

DSL makes a big difference, and it is much more stable then Cable. 56K Modems seems like such ancient technology...

i never notice my cable to be unstable...you should really find some friends with cable and test the water a bit...you will be surprised how much better cable is than dsl.

Uh...
umm...

Well, you see, a 56k isn't that slow at loading sites that are full of text. And these forums are almost all text. So it's all fine. The funny thing is, I don't see much difference between page loading times on these forums on a 56k and on a cable modem. Perhaps it's because I live in a neighbourhood where people ask: "What the heck is dial up!?"

I live in a neighbourhood where people wonder what a modem, let alone a computer is. These forums arent too bad on my "56k" connection. its less than nice when it comes to downloading. As soon as 2way cable is available im getting it. well maybe not right away. its expensive the 1st year, costly the second, and obsolete the 3rd.

Lucky dog!

I've still got the old, ancient, 56k here at my house! Our local cableco has digital cable now, and will be starting cable modems pretty soon. Right now they're waiting for the telco to get the T3 lines hooked up at the head end.

I'm (luckily) on the beta test list. Six years of dialup internet has given me high blood pressure and gray hairs!

I can't wait to get broadband internet - my wife will then have an even harder time prying me out of my office!

Lucky!

No one in my area knows what dial up is. I ask them how they go on the net, they say: "Of course cable modem, there's no other way!"

Therefore, my internet is slow. But oh well, it's much better than dial up.

Hehe... here's it's kinda different. When I ask people how they connect, most reply: "With my 56K modem of course." A few others say: "ADSL". The rest go: "I dunno." When I ask them if they have cable, they say: "Cable? What's that?"

Gee... You must download at 1mb/sec at peak times! ;)

I can download at 5mbit/s too. At about 2:00AM, I downloaded Linux Mandrake in about 20-30 mins that way.
