I won a Radeon 9600 Pro and $400 cash at a local lan party in the main Counter-Strike competition. Good stuff. :)

Now I need to upgrade the rest of my system with that $400CAD cash. I currently got a:

AMD Athlon XP+ 2000(Palomino core)
A7V333
512MB DDR PC2100 Generic(1 stick)
60gb 7200rpm harddrive Maxtor
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Hercules Muse 5.1

Rest is alll history...

Now I'm planning on upgrading to:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ - $145CAD
A7V8X-X - $105CAD
Micron 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM - $129CAD

Total = $379
Total with 15% Tax = $435

This is all at a local retailer. $35 over budget, worth it? That's what I'm asking you...or should I spend an extra $20CAD on getting the Soltek 75FRN2-L?

I think its worth it. I'm just wondering was a draw contest or what? :D

The Abit is a little bit on the expensive side at $175.

Unix, it was a Counter-Strike 5v5 Tournament, main prize was $2000 and 5 Radeon 9600s.

Hi,

From the other thread about the upgrade... with the 2600+, I was also considering getting the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe (http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X%20Deluxe) - maybe try this one out?

Asus make good motherboards. However, it's a matter of preference if your going to be using an nForce2 mobo.

(bleh, i'm still struggling with a 20gb hdd, can't wait for my new pc to come)

Daniel

Why the hell would I need more than 60gb for? I still got a good 40gb free and if I need to keep some large files, I'd put them on a fileserver. Otherwise, it's a complete waste. Honestly, I think this 60gb is a little overkill.

if i were u i'd try and sel the 9600 pro and try to find a 9500 pro

Daniel

I think I'll keep this 9600 Pro. I don't need anything more powerful anyhow.

Daniel

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ - $145
Gigabyte GA7N400L1 - $115
2x Kingston PC3200 256MB - $160

Sales Tax is only 6% here. 15% is way to much. Maybe you should get it from a tax-free online retailer ?

Abit NF7 - $89
2x256MB DDR400 PC3200 Kingston - $99.98

The Kingston RAM is probably the ValueRam ones and thus, don't overclock too well. I was thinking of doing some overclocks with the 2500+. :(
