Go to your registrar and change the dns to mydomain. Then you have to wait 1-2 or maybe more days till whois (i.e. domainwhitepages.com) works.

Probably.
If you have access to a linux account, you can type:
nslookup [yoursubdomain.]yourdomain.tld and it has too show the dns-servers, of mydomain.
If it doesn't you can type
nslookup [yoursubdomain.]yourdomain.tld" ns1.mydomain.com
nslookup [yoursubdomain.]yourdomain.tld" [any_dns_server.tld]
If you want you can send me an email or post your domain here and I will check it for you.

The first thing you should check (obviously) is to make sure that the domain is actually registered and shows up in the WHOIS records of the registrar you used.
Since DNS changes take time to make it all over the net, a good tool to use to check your settings is at
http://www.network-tools.com/
From there, you can check your DNS records. For instance, freewebspace.net shows the following:
Answer records
freewebspace.net 1 NS NS1.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 172800s
freewebspace.net 1 NS NS2.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 172800s
Authority records
freewebspace.net 1 NS NS1.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 172800s
freewebspace.net 1 NS NS2.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 172800s
Additional records
NS1.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 1 A 66.33.36.26 172800s
NS2.MAXIMUMSERVER.COM 1 A 66.33.36.27 172800s
You can also perform WHOIS lookups with close to 100 different whois servers.
