Id have to say I use MSN 6.0 ... its got avatars and FINALLY your own smilies.:D It probabaly sucks if you have 56k though. Also, Im not picky between them really, and that is just the one I first got.

AIM because everyone I know has either it or AOL.
If I knew people who used MSNM I'd probably use that instead, but thankfully I don't.

Trillian, or perhaps IRC. MSN is a chat program that too many Canadians use..

trillian is a poor excuse of a chat program IMO
you have to pay for it, when everything else is free, it doesn't even support some of the feature of MSN6 - how stupid
i guess xchat/mirc and msn6 rate teh highest with me

It's free. the pro version is not. AOL is free because of the fact, that AOL is one of the worlds largest companies, Trillian is not, MSN, same..as AOL.

AOL, ICQ, YIM, and MSN apps are all superior to any version of Trillian, and they're all free (not trillian, and 0.74 isn't very good either)

Trillian is great if all you want to do is talk to people (which is the perpuse of messangers) THere is a box where you type stuff in and a send button, thats all you need.

Trillian, is infact, free. However, being a AOL Supporter, I still use AOL (over my DSL and Cable Connection) and I use Trillian because I am able to communicate with the few clients who use MSN or ICQ. I do, however, use Trillian Pro and not the free version.
Trillian is probably the best all-in-one program that is actively available online with continue updates and the largest community of users.

I usually use trillian. It's got cool skins available and it has aim, msn, yahoo, irc, and icq all-in-one. It (trillian pro) even has plugins to add to the program. Some features wont be available but thats ok because I dont need those extra stuff, just being able to chat and have the basic most important features are fine with me. Although I do have each of those programs, latest version, seperate from trillian, when I do want to use them.

That messenger has only one thing that drives me crazy.....
"We are sorry we could not connect you the services are down"
My vote = IRC....

Personally I will not support the world's largest, greediest, and spammiest internet monopoly. I used ICQ prior to the AOL ownership, so still do. I wont use AIM.

I can accept that. And I can accept you not liking AOL, simply because you gave me valid points, rather than just stating "I hate AOL."
AOL is the largest (despite the large amount of people who dislike it, it still continues to be the largest.. although they are down by almost 3 million users compared to last year).
AOL is greedy when it comes to having control of the way people communicate online. After all, they did release AIM, which probably (besides ICQ at point and IRC) is the largest messaging program.
And yes, AOL has TONS and TONS of spam. Their spam filter (if it even exists) filters over 1 billion spam emails PER DAY, yet I recieve more and more each day. I don't mind spam emails as much as I do spam IMs and Chatrooms. I want tobe able to be online talk to a friend and not get bomed with 500 IMs saying "I'm jenny, 19/f, visit my SeXy Porn Site!" every 20 seconds.

Personally? Well personally i like IRC.
MSN just isnt all that, the interface got sleeker looking, but what do i need that for? Why the integration of pics on the side, if i dont need em? And last but not least, if you allow people to import emoticons, LET THEM IMPORT ANIMATED GIFS AND DONT ---- EM UP.
AIM, sure i have it since a lot of my friends have it, but i hardly ever use it, the sounds that get used every every message is received. I know you can turn it off but its annoying. Third, the fact that you cant type a lot of messages in a row just sucks, if i am posting code to someone, i should be able to post it very fast after each other in huge amounts. And i dont think AOL is such a good company after all, AOL got Timewarner, and timewarner's stock went more than half down the drain. Kinda sad since timewarner used to be a huge company. Then last but not least, i am getting tired and sick of all their damn CD's in my mailbox, we get like 6 or 7 a month, and all we can do is throw it out. AOL should make it more enviromental friendly, not tin cans that get thrown away, then probably reused, or mabey even not.
ICQ, never used them, just the fact that you gotta used numbers is not my kinda style =).
Yahoo instant messenger lacks some stuff, and is just plain unuserfriendly if you ask me, second its just to easy to get knocked off, or otherstuff, the only good part was its webcam interface, it was a lot better than that of MSN.
If i need to contact anyone on AIM or MSN i use gAIM. gAIM is just a wonderfull app, and is opensource as well.
So there you are :).

Trillan (and Trillian Pro, when I can afford it.) With trillian it doesn't really matter what the medium. Most of my friends that actually get on-line are on AIM, then Yahoo, then MSN. I find Yahoo's interface to be my favorite next to trillian actually, once you've disabled all it's crap integration with MyYahoo or whatever it is for e-mail stocks and stuff. The old MSN was my least favorite interface, and I haven't downloaded the new one, nor do I plan to. So. Yeah.
