OK, so I just looked at my class schedule for the coming university year, and damn, do I like it.

Somehow, for the entire year, I do not have any classes on Friday. I have a 3 day weekend rather frequently, it seems.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not gonna spend a whole lot of time passed out in a ditch, I will be using that time to study and such, but you better believe I'm pumped about having Fridays off.

Well, it'll be my senior year in high school and I'm just taking the easiest courses I can to get by. I'm also using this year to improve my GPA a bit, as it's only a 3.67, and to move up a bit in the class rank as I'm currently 27 out of 309.

Anywho, my schedule: http://thaportal.com/pics/schedule.jpg

Well, I'm in my last year of igh school and I set my courses so in the first semester I have 3 classes, the first one begins at 10. In the second semester I have no classes at all! During that time I'm gunna get a FT job and earn some extra dough b4 i start university.

I've done the same thing as kev.

Last year I had a course 3 days a week at 9am.

I never went to it and failed. (I kept forgetting to withdraw :angry2:)

so this year nothing really starts before noon, except on friday, when I'm done at 1.

Like Bruce I'm using this year to improve my GPA, as It's only 0.69 and I'm on acedemic probation.

No Fair!! They wouldn't let me do that, my HS wouldn't even let me take the standard level English course instead of advanced! :mad: And my college hasn't sent me my schedule... :cry2: I know what classes I have, but not when.

Man, that sucks for you guys. So if you take an advanced class you get the same grade as someone taking a normal level class, or is everyone taught at the same level?

If, for example, you have one student who gets a B+ in AP English 12 and one who gets a B+ in Foundations English 12 (lowest of the low), it still counts the same.

This is why many of the top students in my class have such high GPAs. They haven't been taking AP or even Academic classes so the work is much easier and they still get the same credit.

Down here AP classes give additional 2 Credits to the grade, while Honors give additional 1 and regular 0.

I graduated with a 4.7GPA, there is no way you can get higher than a 4.0GPA unless you take higher end classes. But I think they should get rid of the ABC Grading Scale and go directly with Points. Because in FL a 100 is an A and so is a 95. It's not far in the end because if I finish the class with a 99, an A and the kid barely makes it with a 95, it will also be an A.

I'm glad im in college now.

Ours is like Robert I think except the highest we can get is a 5.0, and our AP classes count towards college. I don't know what two additional credits to the grade means. Like can you get a 6.0 with AP classes?

All I know is it that it sucks for Bruce, we used to have classes called college classes that people would take because they were easier and they would always get top rank, because the smart people in AP struggled. They fixed it though because now college classes count as an elective credit instead of a math, english, etc. credit.

The highest GPA to graduate in my class (Class of 2002) was 6.7GPA. I was 5.0 during the year, but dropped to 4.7 because of my stupidity and lack of common sense.

Everyone gets the same amount of credit regardless of what level the course is.

The highest GPA anyone can get here is a 4.33, and that's with a 100% grade average in every class. Another thing to note is that our GPA is cumulative of all 4 years of school.

Grading system is as follow:

Letter = Percent = GPA

A+ = 98-100 = 4.33
A = 95- 97 = 4.00
A- = 93- 94 = 3.67
B+ = 90- 92 = 3.33
B = 87- 89 = 3.00
B- = 85- 86 = 2.67
C+ = 83- 84 = 2.33
C = 80- 82 = 2.00
C- = 78- 79 = 1.67
D+ = 76- 77 = 1.33
D = 73- 75 = 1.00
D- = 70- 72 = 0.67
F = 0- 69 = 0.00

And this is why Special Ed students have the highest GPAs and will also most likely be in our Top 10.

My school's system just boggles the mind. :confused2

Same here, it's cumulative of 4 years. However, the wa to determine where you rank in class, it's your senior year's GPA of all 4 Semesters.

It is against the State of Florida to fail a ESOL student.

This is a bad thread, it's reminding me of all the things I hated about my school & its admin. Like how I was 11 of 54 (that's not quite top 20% mind you) in my class - with a 3.9 ...and our school also did not weight grades for advanced classes, which I was in for English (really the only class that had different skill level courses available for the same grade - like there's only one Chem, one Bio, one everything else but Engish). And we were required to be in the advanced English if our ISTEP scores were above a certain point. So...I should just stop there. I will start breaking things if I don't. ;)

Bruce
August 20th, 2003, 23:03
11 of 54? Must have been a pretty small school.

Anyway, we have different level courses for everything from Anatomy to English to History/Gov't and back again. Hell, we even have a low PE class.

We don't really have a Valedictorian, rather we have a top 10, whcih I'd like to make, but the top 10 spots are currently held by a bunch of people who didn't take any AP/Academic/Honors classes.

Our education system is sorta like Bruce's...

The students in our school are all in IB, and as a result all of our marks are lower than the students of other schools. Yet, all of us outperform the students of other schools in University.
