How can I send a message to a remote computer runing windows XP and its annoying messenger service?

Notice this is NOT related to MSN Messenger nor WIndows Messenger. If you use win XP, you may have noticed sometime a popup message displaying something like "Messsage from Orlando Florida.... Congratulations, you have won blah blah...."

Anyone have an idea on how this windows service is managed to send messages to a definied IP adress?

either find a program to do it, or open up a command prompt and type:

NET SEND [INSERT IP ADDRESS HERE] "Message"

You mean like the spam software these guys sell? Anyone who gets these can easily turn them off. Most of the spams are ads for software that stop this kind of spam...LOL. Here's how...

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services

Scroll to "Messenger" and double click it. Change startup type to "disabled", then hit the "Stop" button. Whalla! No more of those types of spam, and you didnt have to buy any software to do it for you! LOL

Now if only stopping all those friggin "increase your penis size" emails were as easy... I think those spammers are actually unhappy prostitutes in real life.

You know, I never thought of that, but after not thinking about it too much, I'd say you might have an accurate theory.

It's not a difficult thing to do, though as the only use i can see that it has is sending uninvited messages (spam) i'm not telling you how :)

I still get these stupid things in Trillian. Messenger service is off. Is it Trillian or something else I need to disable?

You disable the Messenger Service, you log off the MSN Messenger.

Webdude was talking about the Messenger SERVICE, however, he was explaining how you disable such a thing, while the thread starter wanted to know how you send them...

Because MSN Messenger is NOT the same as Messenger Service.

Messenger Service is a program developed for network admins to send messages to each other on a network, it's not a graphical application and hardly has any features, just plain text.

MSN Messenger is that chat program that people use to communicate through, with voice chat, webcam, sending files, and things like that...

The 2 are not related.

No, I meant that you disable Messenger Service,

but you don't disable Windows Messenger...you log off it...
