I think you were looking at the updated date rather than the creation date.

The WHOIS we use apparently doesn't show when it was "Updated".. it took updated as the creation date.

Well it looks like the domain was registered on 1998 but then it was dropped on June 2002 then someone picked up the domain on september 2002

That is the main reason why you get mixed record.
