My school got some.

Its really to bad they were smart and screwed them to the table that weighs more than a truck.

I really have to say i love using them. They are really good, dont blink at all when doing a million and one tasks, and it has been impossible for me to crash em one way or another.

The Mac OS is based off the Unix OS. It's very rare to crash or freeze a MAC, although it's possible.

It wouldn't be that expensive on a PC though.

It wouldn't be too far off.

It wouldn't be $10,000.

I can build the same system for a PC for $2,000-$3,000.

Of course that's wholesale costs I get and not from a retail store.

Dual Xeon mobo (closest comparison) - $450
2GHz Xeon x2 - $460
250GB SATA x2 - $700
8GB PC3200 - $2000
9600 Pro - $175
20" Cinema Display - $1300
DVD-RW - $200
Klipsch 5.1 - $325
Case/PSU - $200

= $5810 + the other stuff like keybaord/mouse etc.

So let's say $6000.

Pretty impressive if you can save over 50% off OEM prices.

With more and more wholesale places becoming available online (GoogleGear, NewEgg), wholesales in Miami are finding it harder and harder to compete. After all, they have to pay for the office space and other stuff. They are closing like flies and dropping their prices dramatically.

Actually, not Unix OS but rather BSD, mostly FreeBSD.

That is Correct. FreeBSD is considered Unix. But yes, that is right.

Nope, FreeBSD is not considered Unix.

Cause it was never property of AT&T and or developed by it.

BSD used to be an addon to Unix, before it became its own OS. Then they had an arguement over the derative works and stuff like SCO has over Linux now, and they took all Unix code out. Now FreeBSD contains just code licensed under the BSD license, and there is not a grain of Unix in it.

This was done when AT&T threatened to sue BSD.

So in this case FreeBSD is not a Unix OS/Derative off of Unix.

Why dual Xeon? Couldn't you have gone with Dual Opterons instead? The G5 and Opteron are both 64bit processors + the MSI k8t has an AGP 8x slot to make use of that 9600 pro. ;)

Although it only has 4 RAM slots...
