I've found this feature to be more annoying than useful.

It sure is.

Yeah, so in programming my own forum system, I kinda threw this feature out the window.

I've subscribed to a few threads. Not here, at WHT in the ad forums. Since things aren't listed by last post date there it's easier.

i subscribed to the gay rights thread, because it's an issue that's so damn important to me. i check it out as soon as i'm home from work. i don't even have my shoes off yet, tracking mud all over the place... who cares? not me, it sure is worth it.
but seriously, i've never subscribed to any thread on any forum anywhere, and don't see myself starting anytime soon.

If you check your email more than the forums than I can see some use. Or maybe you just joined a huge forum and asked 1 question in a place where tonnes of questions and answers are exchanged. You only care about your 1 thread and don't want to waste your time checking every day. I think those are the reason's for that function.

Archbob, you can turn the Email Notification off by default in the CP. ;) But I still can't believe that you've bothered to uncheck that checkbox over 4000 times!
Honestly, I have never used the Email Notification feature...at least not intentionally. On some forums where it is checked by default, I often forget to uncheck it. However, I know for a fact that on smaller boards, the feature is used very often. About half the people on Aimoo use it regularly, so I guess it's useful to some. :)

I will subscribe to threads once in a while. Especially when waiting on an answer for something. Mine is off by default, so I have to enable it for the ones I want.

I unchecked that checkbox over 4000 times...I'm too lazy to change it in the damn CP.

Its an extremely useful feature,
so in programming my own forum system, I kinda threw this feature out the window.
Better go out and find it...

I may include it in my next release, but I have a personal hate for it.

Include instructions in a installation file or something with a hack for people who want to enable it.
