My younger sister is tired of her crappy computer and gave me $300US to find a new computer for her.

so far I have come up with:

PIII 733
320MB PC133 sdram
2x15GB Maxtor 7200rpm drives in RIAD0
16bit sound card
56k modem
10/100 lan card
integrated video
Windows 2000 Pro (legal copy)
standard keyboard and mouse (never used)
Microsoft works 2002
about 6 months left on the warrenty (dell)

and

ecs k7ama motherboard with a 1.2 amd thunderbird proc with heatsink
256 meg pc2100 ddr ram.
6 gig hdd
case(obviously)
32x cdrom
onboard sound
geforce2mx400 32meg agp(can suprisingly run most games up to about halo)
10/100 nic card
onboard usb
350w powersupply

both are the same price shipped to my doorstep.

what are your opinions?

The first one. While the second has a faster processor, the first one is very reliable...Dell PIII :classic2: Besides, it has more RAM and a (better?) sound card. At least you can upgrade sound cards. She'll be loving the extra hard drive space too, you'd be surprised how fast 6GB will up and be gone.

I've heard some bad things about dell, but not having any experience with them myself, I dont know what to think.

I doubt she'll fill up 6 gigs too fast with her 28.8 connection.

Depends what your going to use the computer for...

Though the 1st is pretty good.

I dont know what 13 year old girls do on the computer. I think mainly she'll chat with her friends, type ---- up and listen to music.

probably the odd halfrate computer game as well.
