You guys always seem to be talking about enormous figures when you talk about the traffic to your sites. How do you do it. Give a newbie some advice. I've tried submitting to the major search engines (about 6 weeks ago) and so far nitto. 1 hit from altavista about two weeks ago. Help please.:)

Link exchange with sites with similar content.
I'm finally having luck with one of my sites and the search engines, but thats after a whole year.

everybody wants to have a lot of traffic, but they forget the most imporant : MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SITE HAS ENOUGH CONTENT.
Without content, visitor's won't come back !
If you have the content, you can start the marketing ...
Make sure that you added <META>-tags to your webpage, that's very important !
After that you can try submitting to the major search engines, but usualy that doesn't work ... or takes A LOT of time !:(
Or you can suggest a site on a local portal (example http://www.start.be) and more local / little search engines ...
Now you can start with the big work; sending emails to other webmasters, wich have pages with the same subject as yours. Try to convince them to put a link/banner on their page, in trade for a link/banner back !
btw Webdude, you call those stats measly ???; you should see mine :D!

Thanks a bunch. You've given me a lot of things to be getting on with. I'll let you know how things go.
When I was first starting I used a site called http://www.selfpromotion.com
It's free, so it might be worth a look.
how good is good? I have about 140 unique hits since around half a month ago...good?

You can always get traffic by driving on a California Highway around 6p.m.

good all depends on if you're happy with it... compare prior stats. look for increases in average, things like that.
now, if you want to feel sorry for yourself, weezerfans.com got 3,795 uniques yesterday [4,495 overall], been growing steadily everyday as well. i'm sure there are people on here with more than that too.

If you are desperate try Iloveclicks.com and Nomorehits.com.
That should get you going somewhat.
