View Full Version : Post counts are back!

Post counts are back!
Yes, we have decided to bring post counts back in General Discussions. We'd like to see more discussions from our new members in this part of the forum. Sadly, when we removed the post count many new members ignored this part of the forum and we'd like to change that. I think we need to encourage more discussions in this part of the forum. It is an important part of the community and a great chance for all of us to get to know eachother better. :)

If, after one month, we see that this is being abused or doesn't work, we'll remove it.

What do you think about this?

Great idea Peo, but maybe you shouldn't have made it a sticky. It is a well known fact that people ignore stickies :biggrin2: :p

Peo
October 26th, 2003, 06:46
Hehe... It's not a sticky anymore.

Yay I can mass post again as there's an incentive (doesn't mean spam though). Bleh if you didn't implement this I could've 8k+ posts now.

It's a sad state of affairs when people need post counts as an incentive to post in a forum...

(This isn't aimed at FWS in particular, just a general statement at all forums)

Daniel

So....what does that mean to me?

notnamed
October 26th, 2003, 20:26
I know for me it means I'm much closer to a custom title :D

...
Or I should...I should have around 1,000 posts. Search shows over 1,300, and yet that cute litte post count indicator says 700 something

Are you going to recount posts Peo?

Nick
October 26th, 2003, 21:43
Oh no! My post count is going to change for the first time in MONTHS !

You will drive me to 5000 posts by just a week. I usually post in this forum. I really have to thank you, Peo.

<Mod edit: If you spam, you will never make it to 5000>

Ahah, if I spam, why do I still get 800 posts that many people who registered later than me got 1k posts? Just like you, Peo, you are the owner and you don't have the highest post. It means we make only useful posts.

tandoc
October 27th, 2003, 00:11
I make plenty of 'useful' posts. :chinese2:

Peo, mabey you can click the count up all the users posts, and reset their post count button, that way we get the post count we really should have.

Then you will lose all the ones that maybe in thrown threads as it is a posts don't count forum :biggrin2:

well, i bet i have less posts in thrown thread than in here, ill take my chances.

Plus, since they are allready there, its not likely we know about them, as we cant see that section of the forum.

Sweet. Watch me zip up to 5000 posts! Bwahahaha!

Addition: Might take a bit longer, actually... 25 seconds between posts. :biggrin2:

That's what I said. Then if it gets out of hand, disable post count again and reset everyone's post count.

Peo

It's a good idea, I'll do that.

I'm proud to say that I don't care for post counts anymore.

Let's hope this move doesn't degrade this section any further.

I won't care about post counts once I can change my custom title either :classic2:

In the admin center of vB, there is a post recount button that recounts all of the users posts they made. That would jack up all of our post counts. I'm sure their would be several 10,000+ posters :P

O and it dont matter to me if posts counts are on in gen. discussion. I've already hit the 1k mark so it doesnt matter :classic2:

My post count was fairly stagnant, even though I frequent the forums pretty much every day still...Strange, for the time I've been here (not only since I've been a member, for the time I've spent browsing this forum), you'd think I'd have more posts. But, I am in the top 30 (of all time).

October 27th, 2003, 19:27
I went from 730 some to 1300 some :biggrin2:
Yay! Now I can use the avatar/custom title combo I've been using at devbox woo!

[edit] I've gone from 130 to 226, nice. :biggrin2:

Any "elders" know what I'm talking about?

Nick
October 29th, 2003, 06:09
Yeah, it was definitely Pre-Oct 2000.

Someone wrote up some stories about the members of the message boards. I can't clearly remember what they were about, but I do remember them :p.

I don't think I'm going crazy

<edit>

HA! I knew I remembered them:

I still don't get what he's talking about...stories on NBCi? Eh? As in news stories?

LeX
October 29th, 2003, 09:35
It must be pre-Oct2000 .....

NBCi used to offer free hosting, after they bought XOOM. (If I remembered wrongly, please correct me) I guess what Nick meant was that somebody saved these stories on an NBCi account...

Maybe you can try searching http://archive.org , Nick.

Nick
October 29th, 2003, 19:23
The link was just to prove I'm not a crazy old FWS old-timer :p.

They were Pre-Oct 2000.

Fictional stories written about the members of the message boards back then.

Yes they were on a NBCi/XOOM account.

Webdude... keith... somebody else has to remember these!

Hmm.... looks like you're not the only one who misses those stories you're talking about.

It links to that thread that got bumped up from 2 years ago.

Anyway, I wonder what my post count is now...probably something around 5000. :biggrin2:
