The most popular windows alternative is probably Miranda ICQ. (It does more than ICQ).

It's my favourite IM client for Windows.

However, spending a few minutes in preferences can allow you to completely makeover the look of it.
Just browse the website and download new icons, backgrounds, etc.

Gaim is cool. (i especially think that the fact that you can perform a DOS,BackOrfice,etc attack on a user, even though i would never use the feature....*grin* hehehe....)
i used to use a client that i really liked, but it was lost when i did a clean reinstall.... and i dont remember its name :(

I know, its just that it allows you to do stuff like that at the (right) click of the mouse.
